Any body play lately? How is it
Posted on 8/1/17 at 9:38 am to CoachChappy
Played three weeks ago, greens could use some help in certain spots. Other than that I thought the course was in nice shape.
Oh and most of the bunkers are not up to par

Bunkers cost a ton to upkeep. And they're a hazard. No need for them to be perfect. Use maintenance and labor budget elsewhere on public courses IMO.

You of all people should know this

There he is! I knew you'd still be around the golf board. How's the golf game, and the yard?
Posted on 8/1/17 at 10:37 am to bamafan425
Golf game is up and down, three weeks of not being able to cut, yard felt like a sponge looks like shite, getting ready to fertilize and spray for some more weeds in the front was looking real good, how things up your way?

Rain? Living in the high mountain dry climate of NW Colorado I forget what it's like to get a bunch of rain.
We've gotten less than 1.5" since late May. We're in a bubble in the valley and never get storms.

This is a perfectly acceptable response when referring to a public course or any course where the budget is an issue.

This is a cop out. If this was actually true, you wouldn't see bunkers manicured at all anywhere. Bunkers should have a certain consistency to them on each course, and players should expect playable conditions out of them on a regular basis. Attention to detail is definitely given to other hazard areas on golf courses.

Notice I said perfect. Trust me, I work on a course where we gotta hand rake bunkers daily, trim edges, maintain a certain height of a "lip" from sand to bunker edges, etc. I believe in a maintained playing surface in bunkers or else I wouldn't work at a place like I do. Budgetary restrictions aren't a problem, so I don't mind spending that time and labor to get them right.
My old course, we should have managed our bunkers a little differently IMO. So many man hours spent on them everyday. Super/club refused to use a SandPro on a few big bunkers that cost us at least 2-4 man hours a day.
Every course is different. Bunkers at every course should be handled different. The real courses I feel bad for are the public courses built with 150+ bunkers, where half of them are unnecessary or too penal for the majority of golfers. Courses, and especially bunkers, can be often designed without a single thought to maintaining them. Good sand can be very, very expensive. Transport costs alone are insane for some places.
So I don't mind seeing some slightly neglected bunkers on an otherwise, well conditioned golf course. I know that probably means more time/money is being spent on playing surfaces in play, like tees and fairways.

Played about three weeks ago. Played island first and then bluffs for a buddy's bday golf day. The Island greens were much better than the bluffs. Made the bluffs look really bad. All other aspects of the course were great

Played it about a month ago. The flood fracked up number two green, but was on its way back. Rest of course was ok, saw lots of erosion from the flood on several hilly spots, especially around cart path. Got a hot deal on golf now or something like that. 25.00 per person. My favorite course to play, but not near the shape I've played it before, but have seen it in worse shape.

How are the members out there feeling about Blane and Jared? So far so good?

Played this last weekend. Bunkers need work. It's in next phase of course improvements. Greens should be rolling better this week. Two green is still kind of rough but considering it was under water last year... greens are getting better. Let me know if ever you want to tee it up old baw

So far really liking them, they're still kind of seeing how everything works and starting to get their changes in mind and figuring out what they wanna do to try and get it up and really running like it should be. I like them and know that the majority of members that play are impressed so far.

Need to make an LA golf trip soon. I'm living in Steamboat Springs, CO so it'll take some planning. I'll be back in the Southeast in October. Maybe I'll swing down that way. Plan on playing a ton of golf.
How you been playing?

Greystone was entirely under water and bounced back a month later

Yeah, I don't get that excuse either.

Was the water ripping thru Greystone or just backed up into it?
