Controversy looms over DJ fired from Applebee's

MONROE, La -- - At the Applebee's in Monroe, people say Thursdays are the best days.

"Man we used to come out to Applebee's every Thursday and we had fun," Cordarion White said.

"It was something to do on Thursday nights we enjoyed it we all came together," Anthony Merrells said.

Matt Everett, known as DJ Matt, has been a big part of that success.

"With everything that goes on in the world to see somebody have a chance to forget about their troubles and have fun it means everything to me," Everett said.

"DJ Matt he's going to play what makes people happy he's going to play what gets the crowd going," White said.

"That was the main focal point dj matt was the main focal point here because we knew that he was gonna play a variety of music," Merrells said.

"We didn't let people use foul language no vulgar songs," Everett said.

That's why he was shocked when he found out that he was losing his job.

Everett says an Applebee's manager told him they wanted a different type of crowd on Thursdays.

"From what i understand now is that they want a more Caucasian crowd that comes in," Everett said.

White and Merrells, two black customers, found out what happened from Everett's post on Facebook and they were outraged.
