NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police are looking for a perpetrator who shot an officer in the leg in the Uptown area.
The incident happened at the intersection of Jefferson Ave. and Camp. St. on Sunday morning around 1 a.m.
The officer was working a private-paid detail in the neighborhood when a light-colored SUV approached his car.
The NOPD said at least one young person fired one shot into the officer's car. The bullet hit him in the leg. Police do not believe the injured officer fired back. Investigators at the scene were looking through a red car with police dash lights.
NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said the officer is at a hospital in good condition. Harrison did not release the identity of the officer who was shot.
The victim is a veteran police officer. He was in a private vehicle but wearing his uniform.
Jefferson Parish Council At-Large Chris Roberts said in a Facebook post that the officer was shot by juveniles.
He said several agencies were searching for a silver SUV with its windows shot out.LINK

Makes you wonder what is being said in police station break rooms when the news pops up with Mitch essentially endorsing "no justice, no peace"

Things don't add up in this story. They don't think the officer shot back but they are looking for an SUV with the windows shot out? The officer was in uniform but in his personal vehicle? Did they exchange words or have some Interaction before the shooting?

One of the better areas of the city.
National Guard is needed

There is absolutely no threat of consequences to these animals. They will only get more emboldened as time passes.
Why would any cop worth a damn want to put himself or herself through the joke of working for the NOPD when they could go to work for Jefferson, St Tammany, or St Charles right next door?
This is the Landrieu legacy.

When a cop gets shot off duty why do we still see "police officer shot"? I understand he's still a cop, but are the two things even related?
If he was a valet driver would they mention that?

What an idiot for not driving around his armored vehicle to patrol

I grew up in that neighborhood. There was always the roaming burglar. He drove around in a van and his buddy would go into backyards or break into cars. I caught the guy once and chased him off. I called the cops and they never showed up. The van was still roaming an hour later.
Sounds like the cop was getting in the way of a caper.

Nobody makes an unprovoked first shot through their own car window. Very strange.
Possibly an accidental discharge by a kid who was mishandling his gun? Maybe they approached the car with bad intent, but he panicked when he saw it was a cop.
