Tollway in Houston

While in Houston last week I took the wrong exit and ended up on the tollway. I took the first exit to get back but of course it wasn't a cash exit. I was in a rental car with an out of state plate, so how likely is it that I'll get a ticket in the mail? I've surveyed the Houston folks around the office and they're opinions are either I'll get one in a few weeks or it will be ignored since I'm out of state. Anyone have better insight?

I ran an unmanned one in the Dallas area years ago because it was cash only and I didn't have any cash. I was in my vehicle and nothing ever happened

It will be billed to your rental car agency who will then bill you on your credit card.

I got one sent to me from Oakland. I actually paid the toll but was in traffic and it mis-dinged me. End of the day they send that bill to rental car company who then forwards it to you with some legal mumbo jumbo that says you were driving it.

Yea my incident was 2005. This would make sense now for them to just automate that shite.

This....and it will be steep. Read that agreement. For just one toll you're looking at $20+ from the rental company.

This. Expect a bill for the toll plus about $10-15 penalty. Happened to me in Dallas.

That's my worry. I was on the corporate rate but billing on my card since it was a vacation rental. Hopefully the manager at the rental office has some pull since we know her pretty well.

On top of that they add a fee for out of state drivers. They billed me around $35 for what would have been $5 in tolls.

A few months back, I ran 4 one night driving to Katy. Never got anything in the mail.

I got a call concerning tolls just the other day. My ex wife refused to switch over plates on a vehicle she won in the divorce and they were calling me for over 1k in tolls and fines. The plate was a louisiana plate. I suspect you will get a call...

I don't know how it works with a rental. But I went through two tolls in Houston. About three or four months later I got a notice in the mail. All I had to do was go to the website and pay whatever the total was. I think it was like $1.25 each time

Just went through this. You will get a bill for around 70 dollars. Just call them and tell them what happened and they'll waive the fee one time. Then you just pay the price of the regular toll. It will take a few months, I had almost forgot about it.
Edit...my situation was on a Tx tag road only. Fwiw

Mine was the cost of the tolls plus one flat $20 charge, so not nearly as much as you said. Mine was Enterprise in the Denver area though
I guess if it's one toll you're right though. It was worth it for me to skip a ton of traffic

I got one in the mail a while back. Was like $3-4 for the actual toll but added a $20 administrative fee. But the notice said since I was a first time offender, the administrative fee was waived and I only owed the $3 or $4 for the toll

They send a notice to your address listed on your license plate after the 3rd offense I believe.
If it's any consolation or you are worried about getting guns drawn on you.....my friend here in town got his car stolen over a month ago and everyday last month, the stolen car went back and forth through the tollplaza....so basically, don't worry about it
You can pay the fine online as well.

Thanks for all the help.
I guess like anything else my results may vary. Guess I get to play the waiting game for now. Will post a follow up so we can compare notes later.

There is no ticket or fine. Texas is 100% electronic now, so you either pay by toll tag or by plate. The rental company will charge you 4.95 for every day you have the rental no matter how many tolls you use, plus the toll. So it depends on your length of rental.
