Golf league: rules, fees, apps, membership, etc.

I know that we have a few posters that play in leagues that have a season with schedules, fees, apps that update a leaderboard live in the middle of the round, championship tournaments, awards banquets with food and drinks, and so on and so forth.
What would you do if you were going to set up a league? And, what are some things about the league you are in you would change if you could?

Golf Genius for tournament/scoring/handicap has been a game changer for us. Great company, great product, great service and support. $25/player per year and it literally saves us hundreds of hours. Live scoring feature is awesome. You always know where you stand against the field, even with handicaps factored in. Scoreboard looks just like Golf Channel or CBS.
We've also gone cashless. All transactions are handled through PayPal.
all members have to pay 6 events worth of tournament fees at the begining of the year. If you're taking up a spot on the league, you're committing to play in half the events. If you don't make 6, thanks for contributing to our party fund.
We've also cutout taking new members who aren't connected to Thibodaux directly and preferraby they are friends with multiple members already. It's not snobbery... we have guys from their 20's to their 50's, blue collar to OT baller, but the guy who's from Gonzales (for example) originally and only knows 1 member has universally washed out in less than 2 seasons.

What do the tournament fees go to?

60% to flight winners, 10% closest to pin, 30% goes to the championship party.
The party is catered, open bar, DJ, we hire a photographer, give out tons of door prizes to the WAG's, etc...
We also get our members who own businesses to sponsor our awards. The trophies are really nice engraved Crystal and are paired with gifts worth a couple hundo.

If you know some guys in the league, they can nominate you.

Do you use just your tournament play to establish league handicaps or do members play on a true handicap?

That's sort of the idea here. I want to start one. I feel like we'd have a great schedule of courses.
I've been talking to a couple of teaching pros over here that are ready to help get it off the ground too.
We think we're gonna call it MAGA.

Ours uses golf genius too, starting this past year
We still do cash pay and prizes though
Our league is about 1/3 golfers and 2/3 drinkers with clubs

I'd consider joining on one condition

I think we're gonna be able to have something set up for the fall. I've got a bunch of people that want it to happen.

Just based on tournaments. A lot of our guys don't have established USGA caps, or only play the one time a month.
We basically use the USGA algorithm but with a differential of .80 instead of .96 since we're using all rounds instead of just the best 10 of 20.
Golf Genius has a tie-in to Handicap Server and it lets you set your formula however you want. Still gives you course handicaps based on ratings and slope. It's proven to be pretty equitable as we've had winners of every level in our non-flighted events.

I'll quit the dumb league I'm in and join. Can you set the handicap to figure party factor. Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.

I've got a guy working on the software for the app now. It'll be ready by the first weekend of LSU football season.
He's an engineer. So, it'll likely not be ready in time, and cost 4 times more than estimated.
