Once Pelicans resign Holiday...

Let's say it's in $18-20 million range. Is it better to keep him and try to move assets players & draft picks for a #2 or do we try and move Holiday?
I'm sure it's been coming covered but what's the cap look like for Pelicans?

You need to up that number to between 23 to 30

That still doesn't answer his question because he thinks what Holiday signs for matters to our cap space this offseason.
I already answered this for you in the other thread where you asked it. Holiday has a cap hold of $16.9 million and that's all he counts towards the cap until he signs his new deal. With that cap hold, stretching Asik, dumping Ajinca/QPon, and renouncning Dante/Cook/Toupane you have about $12.4 million in cap space plus the cap room exception which will be about $5 million.

Okay, then how does it makes sense to resign Jrue at $23-$30m that's just insane. His level of consistency and health history doesn't make resigning him viable? What am I missing?

He's the move to make to get in the playoffs next year. You get in the playoffs you keep Boogie
Long term, I hate it.

Because he already has rapport with AD and some level of familiarity with Boogie. Boogie will not sign a deal until the summer because he can get more money. So when he becomes a free agent next summer we need to show that we are improving and that he should return to the Pels. If we don't keep Jrue, we run the risk of regressing. And in the current climate of the NBA if youre not on the up and up you get left behind. Not to mention resigning Jrue gives us much more money to play around with.
I agree with Coco, long term I don't like it. There are some "max players" that are worth more than the max and some "max players" that shouldn't get max money because that's how a free market works. Jrue is one of those players that shouldn't get the max but probably will

B/c he can and will likely command something around that, however ridiculous it sounds. Someone will pay him.

1) The Pels have painted themselves into a corner so the alternatives to Holiday for this year at least likely make you a worse team this year than you could be with Holiday. The problem with that is this is a make or break year because if you don't convince Cousins to resign next year AD probably won't be far behind him out the door.
2) Mike Conley is currently the highest paid player in the league because there are still a lot of max level players on old cap contracts. 4 years from now when all of the max players are making between $30-$40 million per year, a good starter making in the low $20s won't seem so crazy.
All I want out of resigning Holiday is a deal we can dump later if we need to. His deal will probably end up being between $20-$25 million per, the closer you can get to $20 the better.

I think at this point I would resign Jrue as long as it wasn't for the max then trade the 2018 and Moore and see if you could get Evan Fournier or the best wing you can get for that package. Then I guess use the MLE in Justin Holiday and still have the biannual for a backup big.

I didn't say I agree with it. It's an awful position to be in. I'm just saying he's not signing for $18m-$20m

Does anyone have an idea of what Jrue and his agent are looking for? Because I could justify signing Jrue to a max if its only 2 or 3 years
Posted on 6/28/17 at 12:59 pm to DeionDeion
They are looking for the max.

I should have clarified. I meant how many years

Didn't Crewz already say the offer is about 25 per?
Would Dell lessen the offer (if Crewz is right), if the market for Jrue ends up being really low

the market sets Jrue's price so the answer to your question is yes. It's a delicate balance because you don't want to offend Jrue with your offer and push him out but he's not worth the max.

I think the only specific information MM has mentioned with regards to the amount is they don't want to pay Holiday more than AD. AD is scheduled to make $23,775,506 next year.
On a 4 year deal to get to 4/$100 you can start him out around $22.5. To do 5/$120 you start around $20.5
