I'd bet Ascension is way ahead of the curve relative to small towns.

Sometimes the market needs a kick in the arse.

Even if it is (which is don't believe it is), you are in fact admitting that there is a curve. Those small town areas you talk of will catch on eventually, and if they don't then they'll just shut down. No one gets harmed in letting businesses make their own decisions

They are ONLY there because regulations forced some to go non smoking. Before nobody knew or even questioned smoking in a bar. Regulation of some made the market evolve to what it has become.

Pretty sure that's a minority opinion on either side of the isle.

Yes. There are plenty of people who don't like drinking unless they are also smoking. And vice versa.
In both places that I have lived that have bans, you can do either/or at every bar in the town. There is just designated areas to smoke. No one is taking away your ability to drink a beer and smoke a cig at a bar.

Why can't he decide that for himself? Aren't they adults and smart business owners?
Obviously your going to disagree with this, and that's fine, but in my own personal opinion, the public interest outweighs the ability to make that decision. I would be much more sympathetic to your argument if the owner was actually facing some sort of appreciable injury, but he's simply not for the reasons that I already stated. Smokers are still going to come and more non-smokers will too.
The extent of everyone's freedom in this country, in my opinion, end where the exercise of freedom begins to negatively affect others. The vast, vast majority of laws in this country are based on this principal. Absolute freedom would allow you to do anything/everything from kill others to drive as fast you possibly could should you choose to. We limit this freedom in the interest of the greater society.
Where there are bans in place, smokers face a negligible, if at all, hinderance assuming that patios are open for smoking (I've never seen a ban that didn't allow for it). Non-smokers are able to enjoy the same bar that smokers can. Furthermore, it is in the economic interest of all communities to have as many people as possible spending money in local establishments.
In short, the overall benefit of bans greatly outweigh any perceived negative that comes along with it. That is my personal opinion. You don't have to agree with, and I suspect you won't and that's fine. Again, I'll just agree to disagree.

Exactly. You can easily walk to the patio with your beer and light up. Some places have a bar on the patio so you don't have to walk far and can even sit at that bar and drink/smoke. Many patios are covered so if it is raining you can still smoke. They have misters for the summer heat and lamps for the winter.

No it evolved because the consumers evolved. People like you and me who were well informed about the harm of ciggerettes and decided that we don't want to smoke. There's a lot of us. We are the majority. The majority almost always gets catered to without government interference. Businesses learned that it made more sense to go non smoking. And they evolved like me and you evolved from the Mad Men era.
Why can't businesses evolve naturally? They will die if they don't adapt. Anyone whose taken a business class can tell you that.

I absolutely agree with this, but this isn't the case when it comes to smoking in privately owned businesses because those patrons freely choose to go to these businesses.

It's going to take federal pressure or intervention to ever legalize marijuana in Louisiana. You do realize that, right ?

Not once liberal states started to see how much money could made off of it and realized it's not the green devil. I actually thing marijuana should be deregulated and treated just like alcohol and tobacco.
