Probably not even in the top 20

Whoa.... That team was real good and Jarrett Lee was the QB for most of the season......

They beat up A very strong schedule..... Bama was just the better overall team and their coach made the proper adjustments for GAME 2..........

Look at 1971 Michigan.... Go ahead.....

More wins against better competition in a league with more parity.

18-0 had never been done before.

Pretty impressive, but they weren't pro like the 07 Pats nor was their SOS particularly tough still a great team though

How good was the conference that year. From the looks of everything the Big 10 was not highly regarded because even going into the Rose Bowl Michigan was not a Top 2 team

Even if they had won the Rose Bowl it is quite possible that they wouldn't have won the national championship

According to the NCAA, the 2005 Trojans don't exist so therefore they can't be recognized due to playing with an ineligible player and cheating

OK.... If you don't think that team was not great JUST because of what the NCAA says.... I have lost what little respect I had for you about ANY sport.....

The 1971 Wolverines might not have been the best runner up that season, the 1971 Oklahoma Sooners were: their MOV was 26 pts against a top ten SOS, they lost their only game to arguably the best college team that decade the 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers

I have NO problem with somebody saying the Pats were the best that didn't win it all... Just throwing out A comparison... BUT They scored JUST 14 points in the BIGGEST game against A team they scored 37 on just 4 weeks prior.......

Great teams don't get their records nullified by the governing institution of college sports in America

The 2001 Seattle Mariners season is more impressive because the extension history of baseball history compared to NFL history during the Super Bowl era
More than twice as long
The New England Patriots from 2003 to 2004 had a longer winning streak and was more impressive

If you want to say maybe one of the best teams who did not win in the NFL recently was the 2011 Green Bay Packers not the 2007 Patriots

According to the NCAA the world is flat and these players are "just students."

IOC is less corrupt and hypocritical and fake than the NCAA...FIFA is less corrupt.

I remember 2005 Arkansas lost to USC 70-17.

And then they lost to #4 Georgia 23-20 and #3 LSU 19-17.

pts against a top ten SOS,

Not sure about this... I am not saying Michigan was playing that great of A schedule but look at the Michigan PPG against and then look at Oklahomas PPG against... That 1971 Michigan D was SUPERB... They were even better in 1972.. They gave up only 57 points the whole season and lost to A very good Ohio St. team..........

If you think Michigan has a better case, make the argument.

Sorry they could not beat Stanford a team who loss 3 times including to San Jose St.

They had no chance at winning the national championship.
If Michigan was any good the Eastern writers and Chicago writers who have always held a Michigan bias would have had them #1 in the country

The 73 win Warriors isn't the best team ever. This year's edition is though with the upgrade of KD.

They were the second best team going into the Rose Bowl...
NO they wouldnot have won the NC even if they did win the Rose Bowl... As of DEc 4th ,1971 the AP top 4 was..

1Nebraska
2. Bama
3. Oklahoma[who lost to NEB the week before].
4. Michigan...

So Oklahoma beats Auburn in the Sugar and Nebraska crushes Bama in the Orange Bowl 38-6... So If Michigan would have won the Rose Bowl they would havefinished #2 behind what a lot of people think was one of the greatest teams of All time............
