Imagine having to give up beef

The Lone Star tick
Being in the food industry, I thought I've heard of all food allergies until a few years ago when a friend told me she couldn't eat beef. Pork and other meats yes, but no cow. I honestly didn't believe her at first but then found out that it's a very real thing caused by a tick. She just sent me the above article on how things are spreading to various parts of the US. I've been to Duluth so this really hits home. I could give up many things in my diet but I would probably cry openly if I found out I had to give up beef.

I've nearly had to just because it's so damn expensive. Pork and chicken are much cheaper.

That would suck. A lot... but I'd rather be alive than eat beef if I really had to pick.

What about lamb or ostrich? If so I could work around it.

As much as I love red meat, I could give it up. Just don't make me give up seafood.

Would bison have the same effect?

One of my close friends has this. Took him forever to figure it out and he got lucky that an ER doctor that treated him once had just read an article on it the week before. He had several trips to the ER. One of those trips was pretty close to not making it.
When we get together to grill out, we first have to do a sacrificial fire on the grill to rid it of any previous mammal proteins. He also has to be careful where he eats out as cross contamination is a big issue for him.
He can eat ostrich. Lamb is a no-go and a guaranteed epi-pen situation.
Yes, Any mammal.
