Agreed. He is making 3.7 million this year. There weren't many people that believed he would be in the league 5 years removed from LSU.

When did Les give him a shot at QB?

Ha. Without looking stats, I'd say he had more plays, touches, rushes, recs, yards, TDs in one year at LSU then he has had in his entire NFL career

Freshman year he was QB through practice and listed 3rd on depth chart.

What? We literally tried to get him the ball in every way possible.
Inside handoffs, outside handoff, jet sweeps, throws out of the backfield, and passes. There was a reason it took Shep a while to get productive in the nfl and 90% of it had nothing to do with lsu. He was no where near the wr that he is today. At lsu his routes were sloppy,he didn't have good hands, and he wasn't the best athlete on the field anymore. It's a lot easier to improve in the nfl when it's your job and youre not limited to 20 hours of on the field practice with coaches.

Because we had more proven offensive threats than Step at the time.

To put this in perspective. Early Doucet was only in the league 5 years.

My guess is that his "failure" at LSU motivated him to take his work ethic to another level in the NFL and it has served him well

^^^ Love it when that shite happens. Good for him for grinding and making himself a very nice income at a sport he loves. We all could be so lucky... and motivated.

Les sure screwed up his career at LSU!

Awesome seeing him continue to stay in the league. A strong wind could bring him down when he was at LSU but he's bulked up and found a role. Good for him

Fresh legs, not using them at LSU..... Worked out well for him and Ron Brooks. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icongeauxtigers.png)

you'd be right. his 2010 season was actually kinda productive, all things (read: QB play) considered.

I seem to remember Miles gave him a shot at QB, RB, WR, KR and Shep could never crack the starting lineup at any position. I'd like to know who we should have benched to force Shep into more plays.
The same Miles who was .500 in SEC play over his last ~4 years?

That has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Typical of certain types on tRant.

Yeah because that matters in the discussion of LSU during Shep' s time at lsu.

I'm not sure about that... LSU's SEC record in years after Russell Shepard graduated seems like super relevant and useful information and a great contribution to this discussion about Shepard's NFL career...

Yeah because our sec record in the last 3 years has so much effect on Shep's time at lsu. Once again you're clueless.

In 4 seasons in the NFL, Russell Shepard has 30 career receptions for 432 yards and 1 rushing attempt for 9 yards.
In 4 seasons at LSU, Russell Shepard had 58 receptions for 570 yards and 104 rushing attempts for 716 yards
I'll also reiterate what another poster said. he was tried at a wildcat QB, as a WR2, as a slot receiver, as a ST player, and as a RB. He was not better at anything other than ST than players that played in front of him. His outstanding play on STs is what got him in the league and what kept him in the league. Had Miles not shown Shepard's versatility as a player and just let him sit on the bench as a QB for 4 years, then Shepard likely would not be playing in the NFL right now. Shepard also deserves a TON of credit for being the team player he is and working his arse off to get on the field however he could.
