Two Sisters: Doullut Steamboat Houses
LINK

quote:
In 1905, Paul Doullut, a steamboat captain, designed and constructed a home facing the Mississippi River in what is now known as the Holy Cross neighborhood of New Orleans. The captain wanted a home reminiscent of the steamboats he and his wife, who was, also, a steamboat captain, guided up and down the river. He succeeded in building a unique and beautiful home. In 1913, he had a second, identical home built a few hundred yards from his, for his son, Paul, Jr. Steamboat features on the two "sisters" include the surrounding decks; narrow interior halls and stairs; metal smokestacks instead of chimneys; woodwork reflecting the steamboat era, with columns graduated in size, strung as rows around the decks or galleries; and a top floor resembling an open pilot house with commanding view of the river. The two houses were designated as historic landmarks in 1977. They are landmarks on the river and are known by architectural historians all over the world. -- Nancy

Jackson Barracks is over there too. The original homes are gorgeous.

We would walk the levee sometimes for a class break back in the late 80's, and there were some unique houses in that area. RIP original Holy Cross.

I've only ever seen them from the river.

I am pretty sure he dies a couple years back.
ETA: Appears it was one of those dumb celebrity death hoax. My bad.

In Jamarcus Russell's dorm room.

Yep. Jarmarcus was dating this chick from my high school and Fats was her uncle if I recall correctly.

Used to run past them everyday. The one right on the levee is divided into rental units.

Quick story - the legendary wooden gazebo that is part of the school logo even was still at the old campus after Katrina. The city bought the property (I think, or they got it somehow) and they wouldn't let HC enter the locked fence to move the gazebo to the new campus. They said it no longer belonged to HC. Magically the gazebo appeared at the new campus in the middle of the night, a few baws got the job done it seems...

That kinda is a CSB
Make it even cooler if you were to tell me it was CorkFather, Dneyed, and krewe. Since they are HC grads but was living in Gentilly during the famous home invasion.
God my OT memory is a curse at times.
