Again, people have social media in their back pocket. Why WOULDN'T they pull it out and snap a photo when doing something cool?
If you think people went to a horse derby and paid thousands PURELY to get a photo for Instagram.. that's really rich.
Derbies have been popular for decades. They've been a bucket list thing for folks to do for years. Long before social media. Sorry, but I don't think people are attending FOR social media. They're attending and simultaneously capturing the event because social media is so prevalent.

Because you have a better view if you don't watch the race through a phone screen. Enjoy the moment.
