It's one of the crayfish snakes in the genus Regina. What is your location? I'm leaning toward glossy crayfish snake, but it could be graham's crayfish snake. I'm not really very familiar with these.

That's a glossy, the Graham's doesn't have the black back.The glossy will make you shite your pants at first glance,most think it's a cottonmouth lol

how do you tell the difference between a crayfish snake and a yellow bellied water snake?
