Vast airspace, much larger traffic numbers, National Defense considerations.

Canada has a system that is to be appreciated, and to be honest if we could pull it off, I'd be ok with it.

I'm not saying it would be inherently unsafe, just less safe. I'm thinking from the point of view of a people based position. Privatization seems to bring more of a bottom line to what we do, vice safety. I worry about airlines looking to cut corners, etc.

Your argument holds merit though, obviously I can't give you data, only my personal opinion.

There are subtle complexities to our airspace that are different than any other country, I'm not going to say it won't work, but there's a reason implementing NexGen has taken this long.

A good portion of it is related to funding, which this bill addresses.

American ATC is one thing that we're clearly #1 in the world. 7-10K planes in the air over the lower 48 at any given time and a healthy GA population.

IMO, one of the few things the federal government should run is air traffic control.

well let me help you understand something. we have a republican house so dems can't really propose anything in the house. the system doesn't work that way.

any senator may propose legislation but it's up to the majority leader as to if it even gets placed into a committee much less even makes it to the floor.

it's funny cause you work in government and didn't know that.

I hear "Canada" all the time. They run the same volume of traffic in their entire system that SOCAL does per day. SOCAL is just one part of the massive US National Airspace System. Looking to other countries isn't the way to approach this.

I appreciate your argument, but we're talking about flying tubes filled with hundreds of people, traveling at 500 mph, in a three dimensional space.

These tubes are designed by private industry employees. They are built by private industry employees. They are serviced and maintained by private industry employees. They are flown by private industry employees. And in other areas of the world they are safely controlled by private industry employees.

Why do I suspect that DNC wants to keep their donations from government unions?

As I posted on the other thread, technology can reduce airborne separation. The bottlenecks in the system are at the major airports. Final approach is already about as tight as it can be run and still have the lead aircraft clear the runway. The only solution to this problem is to add runways at major airports. Like rush hour in a big city, everyone wants to be at the same place at the same time. There is only so much capacity. Look at the New York area for an extremely complex ATC puzzle. Multiple major airports in very close proximity.

In other words have the FAA operate like a business that is owned by the government. That's called a STATE-OWNED Enterprise (SOE). Thank you Dems for showing your true socialistic colors yet again.

We are not in the 60's anymore. Sounded scary then but no so much today.
