I was discussing social media with my 10 yr old son the other day, and could not for the life of me think of one benefit it offers to society. Dawned on me how much money Zucherberg has made off of such a worthless idea.

Zuckerberg probably has more power than any single person in history. It's a dangerous thing for sure, especially to kids that have never lived in a time without social media.

It has certainly caused the end of quite a few marriages.

Also, more than a few careers. Not that the OT has had anything to do with that.

My sixty year old mother (no pics, trust me) posted on Facebook yesterday that if someone disagrees with her posts, they are not to comment... they should just "keep scrolling".

It is insane.

Tell your mother (in person) that she sucks.

The people who post to FB are the ones who ruined it. Think about the most prolific posters in your news feed. They're not very bright, are they?

Scrolling through Facebook for the first time in a while and I'm convinced that social media will be partly to blame for the end of the world.

I totally agree. This will be hard to explain to the younger generations as they have grown up in a social media environment and have no idea what life is without it. They see it as an acceptable means of communication on any level. Social media is destroying the very fabric of what holds society together which is common sense and common decency. Social media brings out narcissism and a over valued sense of importance to their thoughts on every subject that are spewed in every online format including this one.

I'm not a tin foil hat/conspiracy type but if you think that statement is wrong then you need to wake up. 2 BILLION monthly users. Active in almost every country on Earth. There's a reason why all of the powerful politicians and lobbyists keep him on speed dial. Who else in history has had that kind of access to that many peoples daily lives?

Doesn't have influence over 2 billion people per month. There are 1.2 billion Catholics. Most of them couldn't pick the current pope out of a lineup if he didn't have his outfit on. I'm Catholic and I couldn't.

You said in history. The pope at the height of the Holy Roman Empire was likely the most power individual that ever lived. Mark Zuckerberg could be ruined by saying one racially insensitive word.

Google has about 1.2 billion searches a day, and I don't think Larry Page is the most powerful person ever either

Not to mention that trump could blow up Zuckerberg along with whatever state he is in at any point with the push of a button.

Maybe I should've said most influential, and influence is power. No doubt that the pope, especially during the HRE, was powerful, but the population of Earth was about one billion at the end of the empire. Half of those people were in Asia and sub Saharan Africa, so I'm not sure how much influence the Pope had there. Either way, I think you're underestimating the power that guys like Zuckerberg and Page have. To each his own though

Influence I will give you, and influence is definitely a form of power. I was more thinking of it in terms of total power.

Snopes is run/owned by extreme leftist anything political on there is laughable for one. The owners were big Hillary contributors.
