Yes. It absolutely puts out more than enough heat if that's what you're concerned about. My cast iron is almost a silver color when I'm ready to sear. Iwatani comes with a modest case which is great for camping. We cooked a large Asian hot pot on this at the beach on Memorial Day.

Same thing I use. And black iron on crawfish burner = badass sear with the quickness. Dollop of garlic butter after the first flip.

Another skillet question: are you using a separate one just for this purpose, and -- assuming are getting it in the 700+ degree range -- how are you cleaning / treating it post-use?

The reason I ask is that I tried the Alton Brown trick (charcoal starter with just a grill and skillet directly top of the starter). Yeah it made a nice sear, but it ruined any seasoning I had built up.
