Late to the party but I'm in.
Occupation: artillery officer finishing third and final year in a military version of business analysis her in the DMV.
Vote to keep discussion on td.com as long as possible, or at least until it becomes another casualty of DoD web filtering.

I would be alright with Slack as well as keeping everything on TD.
Also, I was out of the thread for the past few pages, but if we're still nominating books to be put on the list, I would like to nominate "Lords of Finance: The bankers who broke the world" by Liaquat Ahamed. This book has been on the back of my list for a while.

Ironic you mention that. That book is sitting on my shelf at home in my to-read list and I couldn't think of the title off the top of my head. Too late to vote on it, but I'll definitely add it to our queue.
We've decided to take the path of least resistance for now and keep discussion on TD for now and then reassess the situation after we complete the first book.

Oh, I completely agree and prefer starting where we are going to start, just want to put that on the list.

Sure, let's add it. That last point was re: Slack. We'll get going on TD to begin with but can switch to Slack or something if we need to.

So in the second option, the first post of any new book thread would simply provide a history and link to the threads associated with previous books?
I've also considered asking for this thread to be stickied and use it as the master reference, but may not have enough room since I didn't take up the first few responses in the thread.

You should keep this as a master thread for future discussion on which books to read next and for adding suggestions. Have links in the OP to the individual book threads in this master thread so we can always reference back to older books and discussions. You can include a list of current members or something.
Start new threads for each book with the schedule and questions like you asked earlier in this thread about the book we have chosen. It will get some pre-reading discussion going.
Thats how I envision it at least. I kind of want to start a book club like this for classic novels.

I'm an adjunct Economics Professor so I'm probably not qualified to participate.

Downvotes. Ya'll are ruthless sons a bitches.
But I want to see what books ya'll come up with. This should be fun.
ETA: Seriously though, I do teach economics.

I'm a girl and I didn't downvote. I snickered quietly! :-) You're certainly qualified, if you want to be. As long as you promise to be a benevolent instructor!

Is the first book decided on the 12th?
Posted on 6/7/17 at 6:17 pm to jprice4608
The first book has already been decided and will begin on the 12th. It is Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt. Read the thread for more info, including where to find the book for free.

That all sounds reasonable. I think I'll still start a new master thread and copy/paste information from this thread into the new thread. As bb88 pointed out, this will allow me to reserve a bunch of posts in the very beginning to be filled in the future.

I have the book in the title sitting unread on my shelf. I may try to participate. Or at least lurk the thread.

Great. Good to have you. First doc I believe. We'll have to cover some healthcare economics.

You should post more on Money Talk
My business is money, my day is filled with shuffling money, assets, investments, and general moneyish stuff. The last thing I want to regularly do is talk about money here. I know this sounds weird but I need some distance. I pop in every so often especially when a good discussion on bitcoin or monetary policy pops up.

(1) One master thread or numerous threads? My vote would be one master for search-ability purposes down the road.
I think one master thread will be good for now, but perhaps a link to the page of each new book discussion in the OP will be helpful. I have no issue with separate threads with links to the old discussions.

(2) Finish entire book before discussion or discuss each segment as it is completed?
Discuss segments as completed.
ETA: I am not familiar with Slack, but will be happy to use that if it is easier for everyone.
