Well if it happens, then the Islamists will have won, and the ideology won't be eradicated for a while. The attack on Islamists has to be multifaceted. A public overreaction could have devastating consequences, namely that it will enshrine Islamism as the protector of Muslims everywhere.

It's funny how the politics are ignored on this POLITICAL message board.
You're analysis is sound here. Letting yourself become the agressor leads to them rallying around those people "protecting" them from the outsider.

Except in this instance, the bear is already attacking you, and your choice is to do nothing so other bears don't get pissed off.
