Benelli Vs Stoeger

Other than fit and aesthetics, for those that have experience with both, how much of a difference in functionality between the Benelli and Stoeger semi autos?

Very different. Recoil actions are not the same. I've seen at least a half a dozen stoegers break catastrophically. Most due to the bolt moving rearward with the bolt link not going into the sleeve properly and the link snapping.
ETA - Franchi is better built and better option for a cheaper benelli.

I can't speak to the reliability of a Stoeger like Doc but I will say that I agree that a Franchi is a very good gun. I bought my son one for Christmas in 2015. Has had a decent amount of use an no issues yet.

Out of the box, my stoeger was stovepiping rounds. Acually it just wasnt ejecting the previous rounds. Sent it back in and its worked flawlessly since. I think that's the major difference. The quality control is just going to be lower.

I don't know all the ins and outs of the functional differences, but I can say for the $550 I spent on my stoeger m3000 I can't imagine a better "value" in a hunting gun. Certainly not a family heirloom shotgun, but mine flat out works. Eats/ejects anything I put in it and goes boom every time I've pulled the trigger. In negative temp Minnesota mornings to south Mississippi dove hunts, it has never failed me.

I own a sbe2 and m2000, the bolt/inertia action is very similar. Actually the stoeger is a easier assemble and disassemble. Both are great guns. Used and abused the m2000 for 6 years before moving to the sbe2. It's getting same treatment. Know plenty of guys shooting both the 2000 and the newer 3500 and they really are a great value.

Stoegers do not like low brass.

Mine has never had an issue. When it did have problems, it was due to the extractor and it didn't differentiate between shells. Once fixed, no issues with anything I put in it. I have the M3000, know people with the M2000 (which I believe was phased out for the 3000).i was the first person to ever have an issue and it was fixed.
