I really thought that 2017 would be his last year-and it still may be.

Just because it's a multi-year contract doesn't mean that he can't 1)retire after 2017, 2) be bought out for the remaining years, 3) or just cannot physically do the job anymore because of his medical condition.

I think he's the best thing ESPN has going for it these days and I'll miss the headgear pick when he leaves. There will be no headgear pick anymore when he's gone.

This may be Lee thinking about his family and securing their financial future.

Seems like they are coming up to the big dogs with some pay cut offers and some are taking it (Corso) and others aren't (John Clayton)

This is turning into charity for good ol' Lee.

I am thankful Jackson hung it up after the calling the greatest game ever played.

He didn't sound good at this year's Rose Bowl.

I don't mind it for Lee though - it's probably keeping him alive. Being around youth and having something to do will do that.

Which is why he should retire as a legend instead of dragging it out. It's hard to watch since he's in bad health.

Didn't Jackson still broadcast games after the UT-USC title? I could have sworn he still did a Rose Bowl or two. I know that game never was a part of the Fox contract.

True but I don't think that is the plan. It is not like there is a need to lock him up on a multiyear contract to stop him from pursuing other jobs.

Looks like Les will have to wait another year or two for a goofy, quirky ex-coaching position to open up.

ESPN is going to regret this. Corso is just one air horn blast from doing the full blown chicken on set. Even Herbie won't be able to pull him out of that.

Announcer Keith Jackson, whose voice was the quintessential Saturday soundtrack for generations, will be at the game as a spectator. He hasn’t attended a college football game since the Bowl Championship Series title game at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4, 2006, when Texas beat USC. That was the final game of his broadcasting career.
