i think my favorite quote is: "narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." when most of you pass through the pearly gates, jesus will say 'i never knew you' because you're shitty people that don't embody what he taught This post was edited on 5/26 at 10:48 am
What you're doing here is textbook "judging." It's literally the object of the verse "judge not lest you be judged." Solid work.

Which was the second hilarious point. You're espousing beliefs you don't believe to try to score points on a message board. But you're a caricature of yourself anyway. No one takes you seriously.

You do realize the Jews are still waiting on Messiah, right?

(in other words you cease to exist)

You sure about that?

The Messianic Age
The messianic age is a period in human history that will be initiated when the messiah comes. At that time the righteous dead will be resurrected, but the wicked will not. The messianic age will be a time of peace and the restoration of the land and organizations of Israel.
Dead being raised to life doesn't sound like ceasing to exist.

Not to mention that when Saul visited the witch of Endor, she conjured up the spirit of Samuel. Not sure how that could happen if Samuel's spirit was annihilated after he died.

Reform Judaism wasn't around when "Samuel's spirit was conjured"

quote:
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
I'll do some checking but I don't believe that particular piece of scripture would apply to enemies who have a stated mission of convert to Islam or face the sword.
Much of the Bible has to have the preceding/following chapters and verses brought into the fold for complete context.

Christians could learn tolerance by reading the New Testament and actually following Jesus' message
Matthew 10:34
quote:
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
Matthew 24:6-7
quote:
And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
Romans 13:4
quote:
For he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.
Jesus also cited the Old Testament, so it's fair game as well.
Numbers 10:9
quote:
And when you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the Lord your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies.

Context is important with all those verses. He wasn't commanding anyone to take up the sword. He was predicting the 2nd coming, where there will be a great tribulation against the people of God and Christ will return and bear the sword, Himself, and defeat His enemies.
The Romans 13:4 passage is laughable in this context. Paul was talking about submitting to the ruling authorities who "bear the sword" (of justice) against the wrongdoer. He was saying that Christians should obey the government and he was saying it to Christians being persecuted by a wicked Roman emperor.
ETA: Christ was also talking about bringing division and enmity, even within households where a father believes and a son doesn't, or a mother believes and a daughter doesn't. He wasn't talking about taking up the sword to kill unbelievers but talking figuratively about strife that would exist because He came to show people the truth.
