Yep, that's what's going on here

Yeah, coming from me. Sorry my opinions are unpopular. Why don't you go join the Seth Rich volunteer investigation team?

Why? You seen me participating in Seth Rich threads?
It's not your opinions. It's you.

Several of my high school English teachers were blowing up Facebook about this. They are going to use the speech when teaching Huck Finn.
This explains a lot about you.

why there are no slave ship monuments, no prominent markers on public land to remember the lynchings or the slave blocks
Probably because we tend to build monuments to people, not items. If we were going to have monuments to slave ships, then they would have to be in the states with the companies that operated the slave ships. Here's a hint: they weren't from the South.
If a group of people want certain markers, then they need to collect private donations for its cost. No one is saying they can't do that. The motivation behind tearing down the monuments is the same one as lowering required test scores to make the dumb & lazy kids feel better. If you can't build yourself up, then tear down those that are more successful.

New Orleans was America’s largest slave market:
Pretty sure that's not even true.

Calling them monuments to "The Cult of the Lost Cause" is genius.
I agree. That just sounds awesome. Who doesn't like a good underdog story? And now there's even a patron saint involved.
In reality though, the only people involved in a "cult of lost cause" are those that think removing the statues are going to miraculously end all the poverty and crime in a city rife with ghettos and an ineffective mayor.

Pretty sure it is . New Orleans was the hub of the slave trade from within the U.S. & to & from the Carribean.

Please give me an example of this. Are these like the burning churches in Arkansas that Bill Clinton vividly remembered, but never happened?
I just read an article that gave me the impression NOLA was actually a safe space for the Freedom Riders.

The back flipping justification screams that he knows he pissed off a lot of people, and throwing the "how do you explain it to the kids" was the ultimate tell that he went too far in his exploitative propaganda. This is like the Nazis burning books, or ISIS destroying Ancient Iraqi artifacts and history. Well, this is Landrieu's legacy, now. Deal with it. That's what I get from it...
I got this exact same impression when I read this speech. If you can't win on facts, go emotional. Wasn't his original reason for removing them is because they were a "public nuisance?"

This hero worship of Lee is sort of crazy.
It is silly, isn't it? Why would anyone want to remember one of the most revered & honorable men in both the North & the South at the time?
Robert E Lee commanded the same level of respect that George Washington did. He is one of the few honorable, highly respected leaders in this country's history whose soldiers would literally storm the gates of hell for him. He was highly respected by everyone, including black people. That is what is referred to nowadays as a "generational talent." He deserves to be honored much more than some of the other people from that time who have monuments.

I've gotten enough entertainment with the removal of these 4 ( 3 traitors) monuments.
We'll allow Jackson to stay for now since he didn't take up arms against the United States.

He didn't want to free slaves in border states yet because he didn't want to risk those States leaving the Union.
Exactly. Lincoln never gave a shite about the slaves or slavery. His "great" proclamation only freed slaves in territory under Confederate control. He had the opportunity to free the slaves that were in areas under Union control, but he didn't. The abolition of slavery for Lincoln was only a tool to control the South.
If you actually read Lincoln's own words, you will know that he only opposed letting the South leave the Union for financial reasons. He had no interest in the well-being of black people. The South generated the majority of income at the time. When asked if he would allow the South to leave, Lincoln said, "Who then would fill our coffers?"
It amazes me that people still think Lincoln was anything but a self-serving politician with dictatorial tendencies.
