I've had success with this product. Just curious as to why you would say not to do this.

because the first thing to not do when diagnosing any issues with an AC system is add freon. Freon should not be added unless both high and low side readings can be seen or if added by weight by a good scale meant for AC refrigerant only after a complete evacuation and vacuum is performed on the system.
