Their vote buying programs are being threatened and they make have to actually earn voters for a damn change.

This is refreshing speech and language for once coming out of DC. The leeches in this country need to add to the system instead of being perpetual takers.

Get off your dead arse, put your Obamaphone down, and get a fricking job like the rest of us.

I'd be considered liberal by most on this board but I don't want anyone getting anything they don't deserve or work for.

It was the best single press conference ever given by an employee of the government. I could not believe it. He essentially channeled my brain. If you have a chance to check it out, you should (the press conference, not my brain). Press conference here: LINK

Ummm....this is already a requirement. There are a few listed exceptions to the work requirement.

Not sure what you (and mulvaney) are going on about.

SNAP recipients are required to work

The Great Society supplanted the dignity of work with give me, give me and lessons on fleecing the system. Democrats are scared shitless of welfare reform, all of the good Clinton did was reversed by the Communist Organiser.

What about able-bodied people who can't work because they are caring for sick or indigent loved ones?

I agree 100%. Welfare should be for those who are chronically ill or disabled. Those who care for those people also should be helped. We aren't callous to those needs, but if you are able to work and healthy you need to be out there trying.

Having said that, I am equally against Corporate welfare. In fact it enrages me just as much. They wouldn't make it without the taxpayer fronting their failing businesses.

If we are hard after the poor who refuse to contribute then our great President and Washington should be equally adamant about phony shite corporations that feed of the middle-class too.

Former Oklahoma governor had an ad recently in Oklahoma apologizing to the state for funneling their hard-earned tax money to corporate welfare.

Both things need to be addressed, but of course we all can get behind the poor bastard who is ripping the system.

Some do work, but still need assistance. Some need assistance because they have too many children. That is the root of the damn problem. These women have to stop having kids and expect to get taken care of because of their careless actions. It is down right selfish to bring a child into the world in a unstable environment.

Its really quite simple.

Ineligible for food stamps/section 8/welfare:

18-65
No disability
No dependents

Zero exceptions. Exceptions create bureaucracy and unnecessary costs. A computer can deny claims.

Well, of course. That's the Dems' core constituency.

I have often thought that a lifetime time limit would work. I understand the need for a safety net but it should not be for a lifetime.

I am thinking something like (government) assistance should be limited to no more than 5 years between ages 18-65. I am not including social security because that is paid into by the worker, I mean food stamps, housing, etc. for able bodied individuals.

I can understand that sometimes people get laid off and it takes time to find another job. The problem is that some people wont do a job that is "beneath" them. Taking a lower position might be humiliating, but it is a job and you can keep looking for a better job.

Hunger is a great motivator. I own my own business and make a good living, but I could leave here right now and find a job doing something (even without using my resume'). It might be bartending or delivering pizzas but it would be a job.

There could be additional time allowed if the recipient is going back to school or learning another trade, but the classes should be from a list of areas that there is a shortage of jobs. Not some worthless degree like gender studies, or theater or art history. Those areas are fine to have an interest in but historically they dont pay a wage high enough to live on.
