BTW, I jumped up and went ahead and bought a new McClane edger ($325).

What an arse-backwards way of bragging to us that you bought a $325 edger...

My cousin sold my grandpa's lawnmower after he passed away. My cousin did this in order to sustain his drug use

Who buys stuff from pawn shops?

In the days before EBay and Amazon, they were good places to find out of print CD's and laserdiscs.

I bought a bunch of vinyl albums once from a pawn shop. Damn cheap, too.

I have two clients that own pawn shops and they are both pretty good guys. Their job requires they be able to keep it real, that's all. Good business guys- not finishing school guys.

A good friend of mine and his family owns a few pawn shops and they are great guys. Not trashy at all.

I'm sure some people here know them too.

I know a couple of pawn shop owners and yes they are trashy but they make more money than most people on this board.

Same with owners of towing company, bank. Towing is big business out west, especially in areas with interstates and bad weather. Go watch Highway Thru Hell. Some of those trucks are million dollar pieces of equipment.

Now the employees at a pawn shop or tow company are usually trashy and paycheck to paycheck types.

I knew a guy once that used to buy his kids Christmas presents all from the pawn shop. I always felt bad for that kid.

He was a good boy.

you should, most of the shite was probably sold to "scratch the itch"so to speak, you know someone's mother's TV or little brother's xbox. Or it is just stolen property, i would be willing to bet that 90% of the power tools are stolen.

before eBay they were great places to find things. I used to love going in and looking for things.

They are a Great place for young musicians who can't afford new equipment
They aren't trashy. People who make fun of people for trying to not spend more money than they need to are trashy.

Most of the stuff they sell...you can pretty much get brand new from a department store for the same price anyway. Especially jewelry and electronics.

I disagree. I have a friend who owns one along with other businesses and he makes a good profit off of it. Its pretty amazing the variety of things that people try to pawn

I bought an almost brand new Dewalt Planer from a pawnshop. Had $350 price, FIRM on it. I got it for $300. fricker was still warm when I loaded it in back my truck. That's the only deal I've ever made at a pawnshop.
