Are black people really mad/outraged by the monuments? I thought it was mainly white people that are outraged on behalf of black people.

Monumental Task Committee, Louisiana Landmarks Society as well as Beauregard SCV camp out of New Orleans.
MTC has been maintaining all monuments within the city for the last 25 years at no cost to taxpayers.

If the outcome of the monuments being taken down would attract more tech companies from then north east and west coast I would have no problems with this happening. I'm like most of you and don't want to see them come down but if it can better then city we should all be onboard.
Although, I am getting sick off all these asshats who don't pay Orleans parish property taxes making this an issue. Not your parish, if you don't like these statues coming down then buy a condo here and run for Mayor or city council. Sadly, most of these people speaking out against the monuments can not afford to live in a decent area of the city.

The problem is, the mayor brought the issue before the full City Council, then his appointees opined that the monuments were nuisances, then the City Council voted based on those recommendations. He had the votes lined up before he brought it to the City Council.
Was never a truly democratic process. Another citizen brought another monument before a city council committee hearing under the same nuisance law and was never given equal process. This isn't about what the citizens want or what is best for the city, this is about Mitch having proof he accomplished something and has a legacy.

A Tulane professor said today that he counted approximately 270 (or so, may be a little less) people, mostly college kids aged 20 - 25 and of these people only 11 (or so) were black that were protesting for the removal of the monuments.

If it does, it had better pass before Jazz Fest ends. Mitch Bitch is gonna be in high gear then.

And those are the kids who we want to stay in the city and start companies here. It's not hard to understand why Mitch wants these down.
Posted on 5/3/17 at 11:46 am to ellishughtiger
there's a confederate monument on the other side of Canal from Jeff Davis that Mitch doesn't even know is there...
also, let me tell you about the massive amount of black protestors around the corner from me on Gen. Early Dr......

no these are all the assholes who moved here from NYC to go to Tulane because New Orleans is so edgy and bohemian and will be promptly returning to work on Wall St. after college.

Not all true. There was a large number of Tulane kids who stayed in Nola post Katrina. Of course many are going to go back up north but not all...

it passed 11-7 and then there was a recount because someone was not asked. Then it passed 10-8 on a recount.
Maybe my math is wrong but 11+7 = 18 and 10+8 = 18. SO it appears that someone was left off on each vote.
