Give me a sec, illustration pending.

ETA: I give up on the illustration.

Key Points:
*Your 14 hour On Duty is continuous and cannot be broken up with sleeper time
*Your allowed 11 hours of Driving time within that 14 hour On Duty cycle.
One of those can not surpass the other, if you go On Duty at 6am, at 8pm your day is done, you must shut down, even if you haven't driven 11 hours within that 14 hour period. Likewise, if you run out of your 11 hour driving time before your 14 hour On Duty time is up, then you still must shut down.

Basically, you may not exceed 11 hours of driving in a continuous 14 hour on duty shift.

I think he may of understood the rules. It's the enforcement that is doesn't make logical sense (like many laws).

I kinda feel for the truck driver though. If I'm sitting in someone's yard waiting to get loaded I want to get paid no matter how nice my cab is. If my arse isn't home I want someone to compensate me for that.

Bonus joke as told to me by a trucker:

Very wealthy guy has brain cancer. Only way to save him is a total brain replacement (very expensive). So the rich guy (like billionaire wealthy) says to the doc, "how much is this going to cost me? Doc says, "well for 100 million we can get you a brain from a lawyer". Rich guy says "100mil? thats nothing. But If I'm getting a new brain I want to very very best. What does that cost?" Doc says, "the very best one costs 500mill and is a trucker brain." Rich guy says " A trucker brain! why the hell would that be the best?" Doc; "like new, never been used".
