If the hub crashed, how are you going to use it to control the plug to reset it?

Eta just read the above response. Does the wink app not go through the hub?

the wink hub is only required for the low-power radios like zwave, zigBee, lutron, kidde etc. The hub just aggregates all the smart shite so its in a single place where you can string together complicated actions regardless of what it is.

devices with built-in WiFi typically connect via API (honeywell, nest, hue*, iHome, ecobee, chamberlain, etc.)

stuff using the API will still function if the hub is down.

*hue requires its own hub so technically even though the bulbs are not WiFi they'll still work because wink sends the commands to the hue hub.
