Living in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN?

Has anyone lived there or spent extensive time there. May be looking at a work opportunity out there in a few months. I know the winters suck arse, but any other thoughts on the area?
Other questions:
-which suburbs would you recommend, job is in downtown Minneapolis.
-Cost of living is higher, but another things to consider?
-Things/activities you recommend?
-Minneapolis side or St. Paul side?
I've been several times for work/vacation but really considering heading up there. Any other thoughts would be appreciated? TIA

They have lots of Somalian Pirates that live there.

The winters alone are enough to make me not want to move there. Remember when it got so cold that they warned people their eyeballs could freeze? No thanks

It's an upgrade in job so hence considering it

If the price is right I can't blame you. I've applied for a few jobs in less than ideal places. For the right amount of money I'd move just about anywhere.

Awesome part of the country. Lots of large companies, money and honkies, too.

Was on a project there in 2015. It's a very nice city with excellent shopping and very solid job opportunities. The airport is awesome with a lot of nonstop flights.
You'll think the giant enclosed malls are weird until winter.
The drawbacks are that it makes Pittsburgh seem warm and tropical and the people are kind of weird. It snowed there in May.

Yeah, my company is pretty significant in that region, so it was worth considering. It's a beautiful city

Incredible summer weather with a ton of stuff to do. Bunch of breweries with great beer and booming culinary scene. Very walkable downtown area with pretty good public transportation.
Hell on earth the other 8-9 months out of the year.
Visited a ton and my best friend is from there.

You work for best buy?
Youd have to pay me enough to afford a house down here for the winter before I would even consider working up there. I hate being cold and being frozen for a few months just wont work for me.

Nice city, lots of outdoor stuff. Winters aren't that bad. Couple arctic fronts a year and only 4 months of a real winter.

been here for two years:
pros: low crime, clean, bike friendly, lots of festivals in summer time. good for outdoors activities like ice fishing and hunting, if you're into that. Breweries everywhere. Tax free on clothing.
Cons: Cold as hell, Windy as frick, food sucks, hard to make friends, they call it MN nice (not really). People are passive aggressive.
Oh state taxes will rape you. Coming form the south, MPLS is very expensive. I'm looking forward to move out of here soon.

Lived here a few years now. Love it. Clean city. Tons of big companies. Not the best food, but that's probably the worst part. Traffic isn't horrible. Pretty low crime for such a big population. I think the "horrible winters" have been over played. I've been here 4 years now and it's not bad enough to not wanna be here. I didn't have to plow my driveway once this year. Sure it can get bad, but it's not like it's 30 below with 2 feet of snow all winter. If you like the outdoors, I'm not sure this place can be beat. Also I think we have a team for every major professional sport. NFL, MLB, nba, wnba, mls. There are certainly worse places to live. I traveled all over in the navy and this is my favorite place I've lived.

Everyone is right about the cold. Areas to live varies on where you work. Both cities has a large amount of diversity the south doesn't see.
Schools are great if you have children, the cities are safer then most big southern cities. Cost of living is high but the pay will usually equal it.
Areas around St. Paul, white bear lake, oakdale, Woodbury, Eagan. For Minneapolis..Bloomington, eden prairie, wyzata, Minnetonka
