To deny the Syrian government has allowed and even encouraged expansion of ISIS and related atrocities is to disconnect from reality.

That is not true at all.

ISIS gets most of it's support from Sunni Arabs--many inside SA.

The Iranians and Syrians hate them.

This entire civil war in Syria is about gas pipelines and who controls the land they will pass over IMHO.

so I suspect her info is straight from US intelligence
But we know as with Libya, that often was not the case.

The further weakness in your suspicion is US intel in its quest for regime change would be trying to cover for SA and Qatar. Correct?

The Assads have been on the shitlist for decades. He's an Iranian/ Russian client in a Sunni/ Shia -balance of power tug of war. It's a war of attrition, both sides committed to the destruction of the other and the US is all in with the Sunni/Saudi/Israel coalition because there is a political paradigm that we are unable to escape. Some of it makes sense and some of it doesn't. No matter what, our course has been set. So Assad must go, even if the consequences are catastrophic. It's Groundhog Day for America.

Why did Assad release Zahran Alloush, the former leader of Jaysh al-Islam, from Seidnaya prison in 2011?

Why did Assad release Hassan Abboud, the founder of Ahrar al-Sham, from Seidnaya prison in 2011?

Why did Assad release Abul Abbas al-Shami, the later top commander in Ahrar al-Sham, from Seidnaya prison in 2011?

Why did Assad release Abu Malik al-Talli, the top commander in Jabhat al-Nusra in Qalamoun, from Seidnaya prison in 2011?

Why did Assad release Abu Ali al-Shar'i, a former ISIS judge (who even ISIS thought was too extreme), from Seidnaya prison in 2011?

Why did Assad release Mohammad Hayder al-Zammar, a 9/11 recruiter and later ISIS commander and ABM funder, from prison in 2013?

ISIS separated from AQ in 2014.
What's your point? Mine is that Assad intentionally fomented Islamist elements of the rebellion by releasing jihadi prisoners, some of whom ended up in ISIS and some of whom ended up with other Islamist groups like JaN.
