2. I have an 03 Limited and it doesn't have any of the modern amenities that you probably want. I still have to plug my phone into the tape deck for Christ sake

Yea if 1 had the V8 that would be my choice. Really can't go wrong with either.
Like OP said he could easily afford both, then I'd go newer.

They are both 4th Generation 4Runners... personally I don't give a crap about heated seats and GPS, so I'd save the $4K and go with the 2004 Sport edition.
This is where I think I'm leaning.

Does either of them have the V8?
No, both V6, which is what I want. Neither have any reported accidents. And I didn't want to post pics because I didn't want that to influence opinions.
As far as test driving, no, neither are local. They aren't terribly far from me, but are from each other. I'd need to decide on one or the other and then head down with the intention of buying. If they drive like shite or don't look as good as the pictures suggest, I'll just get drunk with a buddy and head back home the next day bummed.

You know, for just a couple hundred bucks you could solve that problem right?

If both trucks are V6, they have timing chains not belts.
I would go with #2.

Seriusly, both options you posted seem like very good deals re: price.
Many of the comp 2007's/08's are 13K online.

Only basic diff is the front grille really.

the 2008 would have an AUX port for the factory radio, the 2004 won't (added in 2006)

Still enjoying my 2006 4Runner Sport Edition V8, but only have 90,000 miles on it. Need to get the timing belt done soon.

1) It's a Toyota. Miles dont matter. Save your money.

I'd find one that's 4 wheel drive. They keep there value 20-30 years later.

It's got the Bose integrated sound system, so it's not as easy as just slapping in an aftermarket stereo...
Unless you are talking about something else.

4runners of that era were very good.
The interiors were prone to dash cracks (which are easy to spot) and you may want someone to look closely at the front hubs on both models.
We bought a used 2004 Lexus RX 330 and apparently there was a "recall" or whatever on the dash for this very reason. Lexus dealer replaced the dash for free. Toyota models of the same yr might be covered too.
