Depends on the yard. When I lived in a shotgun house in town with a tiny yard a push-reel mower, and weed-eater was all I needed.

Battery would be fine if you could do the whole yard without recharging.

It's decent sized, but nothing large. A few trees to mow around, and an old swing set and clothesline (I rent, otherwise I'd tear them down).
The gas mower I have now isn't self-propelled, and it takes about an hour or so to mow. No idea how long it would take with a self-propelled model.

Going to another post, the ability to switch to a weed eater is a big plus imho. The one the landlord got me requires 5 steps it seems to get started. Quite annoying.
