Grilling Idea - Green Onions

I know grilling green onions is not an original idea. What I would want to try is to infuse some form of sweetener into the onions. Anybody tried this or have ideas on how to make it tasty?
Honey? Sugar water? Just plain confectioners sugar?

I would not think you would need a sweetener. Just put them on a hot fire and caramelize them a bit.

When done, you could drizzle some balsamic syrup over them.
