Lester Earl mock draft 1.0

1.11 Gareon Conley, CB Ohio State
Thoughts: Ideally would like to nab a DL, but I don’t see anyone available that will match value of pick 11. Conley is an athletic, long armed CB that doesn’t panic with the ball in the air. You won’t see him here in mocks, but stock is rising & many of the CBs are near equal, just a matter of preference.
2nd choice: if one of Solomon Thomas, Malik Hooker, or Jonathan Allen fall to 11, I think they’d run to the podium.
1.32 Curtis Samuel, WR/RB Ohio State
Thoughts: The Saints dip back into the deep OSU player pool again, nabbing Samuel as a guy that can make plays out of the slot & backfield, somewhat easing the loss of Brandin Cooks.
2nd choice: I really think they want to land a QB in this draft, but again I don’t think the value presents itself at 32. We know the Saints love to trade up, and they have the ammo. Keep an eye on them packaging pick 1.32 & 3.76 to move up into the 20’s for Patrick Mahomes.
2.42 DeMarcus Walker, FSU DE
Thoughts: 6’4” 280 is a 2-way end. Has 16 sacks & 21 TFL as a SR would fill the need along the Saints defensive line.
2nd choice: Chidobe Awuzie, CB Colorado
3.76 Jordan Leggett, TE Clemson
Thoughts: big athletic former WR, adds a red zone presence & fills a need a shallow position.
2nd choice: Nathan Peterman, QB Pitt
3.103 Julie’n Davenport, OT Bucknell
Thoughts: Saints love their small school OL with huge potential. Davenport is 6’7” 318 with long arms & could start in year 2.
2nd choice: Xavier Woods, SS LA Tech
6.196 Lorenzo Jerome, SS Saint Francis (PA)
Thoughts: had a horrible combine, but shows instincts and competitiveness on tape, which is what you are looking for this late in the draft.
2nd choice: Jeremy Cutrer, CB Middle Tennessee State
7.229 Speedy Noil, WR Texas A&M
Thoughts: Noil turned in a nice combine, showing great athleticism. Was up and down at A&M. High upside but easily cuttable.
2nd choice: Nate Theaker, OG Wayne State

Not bad, Speedy is a head case but value that low.
I saw him and OBJ play in HS and Speedy was better.

That's bait right?? I'm just gonna let that dangle.

What are we melting over bunchie?
Posted on 4/5/17 at 7:42 pm to Lester Earl
People around here would melt with Gareon Conley at 11 and no DE until 42 AND that DE is Demarcus Walker.
I'm fine with it but this place would be in full on melt

Lester liking my not talked about prospects thread

He's easily cuttable but are we sure we can bring Speedy back home? Same way we couldn't with Tyrann.

We're not going to take a cornerback with the 11th pick. Cornerback is the deepest position in the draft this year.

I don't agree with most of those pics, especially that jackass SN but props for justifying the picks.

Speedy was better than OBJ and anybody that watched football in NO will confirm that.
He is a rare talent and a rare head case.

I up voted for four reasons:
1. Awesome format. Gave reasons short and sweet and listed second choices.
2. Love DeMarcus Walker.
3. You didn't pick a QB.
4. Like Curtis Samuel.
Hey I don't like em all but who does so why nit pick over those you would change.

Way more than likely to have something looking like that as opposed to 5 sec defensive players in a row or a couple of guys that are some combination of Barnett, White, etc. Like every year, the saints and every other NFL team arent going to look like the most popular mock draft sites on the internet. People will undoubtably think this mock is WAY OFF since it doesn't look like a slightly varied order of the most popular online websites. They'll then say it undoubtably sucks and these players are terrible. Have an upvote for a good post with explanation and not regurgitating the same shite.

This is bad and you should feel bad

Conley? Not at 11
Samuel? No way at 32
Walker? Yes please
Leggett? I'd be okay with this, Brees would love him
Davenport? Agree, cliche Saints pick if I ever saw it
Jerome? No absolutely nothing about him
Noil? In the 7th round, I'm cool with this.

This would be a Saints draft.
Not sure if I like it or not yet. I like the reasonings but not sold on all the players.
I'm not ruling out a Butler trade yet, so tha would definitely change what we do.
I do think we find a way to nab at least a DE, QB, HB, and S in the draft and either Butler or draft a CB. Likely an OT somewhere instead if the value ain't right at another position.
Picks after the 4th round are almost straight value so it's hard to say what we'll grab after our thirds.

Conley is not out of the realm of possibility at #11.
My favorite of your picks is Davenport at #103. He'd be good value there with starting potential by year 2 or 3.

1. Not a bad list.
2. Excellent format.
3. The only one that I would not do is Speedy.
Would not even take him as a free agent. Just to much of a head case. Imo.
4. On Conley at 11 I would try to trade down but I like Conley so not against him.
