OT Help / La. Dept. of Revenue

Need OT advice.
I have been receiving one page invoices from Louisiana department of Revenue claiming that I owe the State $1700 from filing year 2015.
My accountant sent an amended return to the state last June ecause if an incomplete contribution to my IRA.
Consequently, I sent a check to the State for $53 per my accountant.
After receiving first invoice ifrom Dept of revenue in February, I called my accountant and he wrote a letter to the dept of revenue. Enclosed was a copied check of $53 that I sent last May.
This invoice from the dept. Of revenue explains nothing. No reason why or how I owe them this money. No explanation whatsoever.
Anyone else been bullied like this for no explainable reason ?

Have they been adding interest and penalties to the invoice each time?

I'm surprised they didn't get the OMV to send you something. All this state does is make up reasons you owe money.

Yes. About 60 dollars sine February.

I'm sorry about not posting on money board

I don't think they can read to be honest. I had something similar happen and went back and forth with several letters. I finally called (and waited 90 mins on hold) and talked to someone. The lady said "Oh, I can fix that" and just removed the charge from my account. I was on the phone with her for less than 3 minutes and accomplished what lawyers and certified mail letters couldn't get done. Try calling them.

I have always received nice refunds from state tax filings including the year in question 2015

It isn't bullying it is incompentance
Ultimately it will be slow, but you just keep writing them letters telling them why they are wrong.
They might get it fixed with first letter

If they are getting refunds, you shouldn't listen to them on the money board.

Call and try to get info on why they are billing you.
There are a few potential reasons for this but without details as to why you owe on that period (fed state match, errors on the return, etc) but this could range from billing you by accident to claiming you underpaid the state for some reason.

Thank you. I figured a professional agency would provide documentation for why I allegedly owe them money.

I've had something similar... Kept getting bills for tax not paid (said I didn't file return that year). I showed them numerous times I paid the taxes that year, but still keep getting the tax bills... Years go by, I lose the damn paperwork, then they say they're going to garnish wages so I end up refiling for that year and paying, as I'm tired of dealing with and want it to go away.
A couple of months later I get a check for all of the money back.

No problem back in my tax days you go back and fourth a couple of letters, and finally you don't hear about anymore

Depends on the letters sent to you in the past.
There are different kinds of letters and bills they send depending on whether it is considered an estimated billing, a self assessed billing, a fed state match, or something else.
They have also had problems before where they sent followups to money returns claiming no check was received when they deposited it, as I have had to go down there before and show a copy of the canceled check to get them to correct it.
Best I can say is this may be incompetence but it could also be that your preparer fricked up in some way and you owe more than that $50.

Make sure they are not hitting your credit rating over this. Most State agencies report shite like this as bad credit.
