Brown had a great impact on LSU's program when he was head coach. You can't deny two Final Fours and a handful of outright SEC regular-season titles.

But he was like Les Miles in that he was a good recruiter and a poor gameday coach. He essentially cut corners and mailed it in his last four seasons as head coach. And he obviously had enough influence to get Jones hired as head coach.

That's not hypocrisy to mention it. It's part of the record. Long-time coaches often have messy departures and complicated legacies if you choose not to put blinders on. They're human beings so no surprise there's good and bad to Brown's legacy here. It's not cut and dried.

Is there some rule that a stadium/court/field has to be named after someone? I just think we need higher standards. You can appreciate a person's contributions without having to name something after them.

He was just not a coach worthy of that honor.
Great recruiter, great promoter.
Always questions about NCAA compliance even in the old days.
Had great players, less frequently great teams.
Good guy, tho'

Classic case of when something gets stated often enough gullible people believe it. You dont win 446 games and achieve what he did just on recruiting alone.

The hypocrisy is lauding those top program today and not appreciating when Brown once had LSU in that same position. Yes you consider the career from start to finish, The end of his career would look a lot different with a healthy Randy Livingston leading teh way.
