Dale Brown does not deserve his name on the court. Just because he was our most successful does not make him a legend.

Obviously that's debatable (though I tend to agree with you)

All time legend? No. LSU legend? Absolutely! Brown took a poor program and for over 15 of his 25 years as HC made LSU basketball a must see event. Never was the national exposure greater, and while his tenure ended on a bad note, throughout the 80's and early 90's he had the PMAC rocking. I would say LSU basketball was every bit as big as LSU football when Brown had things going. Brown never shied away from attention or big games.

He was hated at the end because of the way the program came crashing down. He's hated to some extent now because people blame him for the Johnny Jones tenure. However, the good FAR outweigh the bad. LSU basketball was never more exciting than it was under Brown. Hopefully Wade can bring that back

Dale wasn't the best Xs and Os guy and has said that himself. He also underachieved with Shaq and CJ (though Arky was incredible at that time in-conference too). And it was time for him to go when he ended his career at LSU. However, he has been inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame and was inducted as an SEC Living Legend. So it's not just an "LSU" thing. I think his personality was probably even more legendary than his accomplishments, but he did have some legendary accomplishments.

His team became the lowest seed to ever make the Final Four (two other teams did it 20+ years later, but they're still tied for the lowest seed to ever make it that far), his teams played in front of the three largest crowds to ever see a basketball game on any level at the Dome (and Brown was the one that sold LSU basketball to the fans) and his 10 straight NCAA tournaments back then was pretty rare (Calipari and Donovan haven't even been to 10 consecutive NCAA tourneys). Also, teams in the tournament used to host regions, but LSU's fans were so loud and seen as such an advantage when they hosted and upset all the teams as a lower seen in 1986 that they put an end to that practice after that year. Brown created the Deaf Dome back then.

Dale is a Hall of Fame Head Coach, there is no debating that.

Now McClendon and Moore are Hall of Fame football coaches and we didn't name the football field after either. The practice facility and track stadium have their names. We should honor Dale but not with court.

The way Dale's last five seasons went down at LSU made me rethink how good of a coach he was.

I love Coach Brown the motivator, the ambassador, the husband, the father and the champion of equal rights for all people. As a coach...?
