ETA - if this doesn't get a shite ton of people fired at the FBI what will?

The FBI is not cooperating with the House of Representatives' investigation into the NSA's surveillance of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, the chairman of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), said today.
During an explosive press conference outside the White House, Nunes told reporters that communications from the Trump team were picked up and disseminated within the government during the 2016 campaign. Nunes said sources within the intelligence community presented him with the information. He spoke to the press after briefing the administration.
"We don’t actually know yet officially what happened to General Flynn," Nunes said of how communications from Gen. Flynn's calls were leaked to the press. "We just know that his name leaked out but we don't know how it was picked up yet. That was one of the things that we asked for in the March 15th letter, was for the NSA, CIA, and FBI to get us all the unmasking that was done."

It would be a pretty huge admission of guilt.

Sure he can. Just like you can waive your right to remain silent.

I mean it would be incredibly stupid politically-- to the point that it might push Republican moderates to join with Democrats on a censure resolution.

No, Comey has a set term. He would need to be impeached.

It's really amazing to me how he hasn't been canned yet. It's completely bipartisan to want him out. He's the most incompetent Director in the Bureau's history. The guy could frick up a bowl of cereal. I thought it was equally likely that Obama or Trump would can him, but didn't think he'd make it past January.

"Under a United States statute that first went into effect in 1968, FBI directors are nominated by the president and must be confirmed by the Senate — a process similar to the nomination and confirmation of Supreme Court justices or presidential cabinet officials.

Unlike the justices, who are appointed for life and cannot be fired — but can be impeached by congress (which has happened only one time in American history) — or cabinet officials who have no set terms, the FBI director is appointed to a single term of 10 years.

The statute establishing the 10-year term limit was passed in 1976, four years after the death of legendary FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, who held on to the job for 48 years.

But according to a 2014 report by the Congressional Research Service, “there are no statutory conditions on the President’s authority to remove the FBI Director.” In other words, the President can indeed fire the FBI director. An FBI director can also be removed by congress, through the impeachment process."

All of this is true and I'm sure Obama would love if Trump canned Comey and Vice Versa for Trump a few months back but neither of them would/likely will do it because by firing the guy you make your administration look guilty of something.

I mean I think Comey has been bad for the Bureau and the US but damn if he didn't position himself pretty well to survive.

Hell, if he somehow takes down Trump he's basically Littlefinger from Game of Thrones.

What? Appointed officers are not elected officials. They are appointed, confirmed, and serve until they are "un-appointed" (fired). Or quit, retire, or die.

Well, LF was behind the scenes and wasn't this sloppy. Every a-hole in Washington knows what he's up to at this point and are not underestimating him.
