Although encountering them is much more rare, we have a small population of killer whales in the Gulf. I have a catalog of about 40 distinct individuals. I have been right along side quite a few of them in a 23' boat photographing and taking biopsy samples from them. Its really cool to see them out in the crystal blue water...even saw them upside down one time under the boat checking out the propellers.

Yeah they're literally in every ocean and gulf.

You'd get the gubment on your butt if you attempt to interact.

I've kayaked around them, they ignore you. Sea lions are the critters you have to worry about.

Oh no. They can pretty aggressive. There have been a couple of attacks and doctors compare them to bear bites.

They'll also jump on your kayak if Mr. Orca comes prowling. Sea lions can weigh up to 2000 lbs.

Probably territorial. They'll chase you along the dock sometimes.
