20 Years Ago in LSU Baseball

We saw one of the greatest teams in college baseball history. 188 homeruns with one in all 70 games. Reminiscing of the days of Patrick Coogan and Doug Thompson pitching, Brandon Larson, Mike Koerner, Eddy Furniss, and Blair Barbier hitting.
What a stacked team and a fun season to watch. 57-13 record. Was just thinking about this season today and realized it's been 20 years.
Let's geaux and beat Georgia now!!

The old box was the only time our parents let us hang out on railroad tracks because we would wait for foul balls.

Blair Barbie would have been like the twins and Adams in today's game. He wasn't all that for damn sure.

You cannot be serious with this

A lot of those role players in the 90's would be like that. The twins and Bryce Adams would have been great players for lsu in the 90's. You pump them up with steroids and with those bats. Things were definitely different. Kramer, Duplantis and Freeman would have 15-20 homers each. Deichman could've hit 50+.

Why? He couldn't hit the curve, was slow, took andro with Larson and was a big mouth.
Why is speaking facts bad?

do some of you think roids aren't happening in college baseball anymore or something?
Posted on 3/17/17 at 10:57 am to Brageous
Flashbacks to the ole Alex box just flashed back into my head.

Not as openly as it was back then. Plus when you add in the bats. I'm not diminishing what lsu did at all. Everybody was doing it they were just doing it better. You can't build a team like Skip could back in the 90's. Just shows how times have changed in only 20 years.

quote:Skip gave a talk at a luncheon I attended earlier this week and spoke about this very topic. He said with the scholarship rules now and the new bats, he says no one will ever win 5 CWS in 10 years again. There's too much parity.

He said if those same restrictions were in effect when he was coach, he wouldn't win like he did.
He went through some scenarios where he would offer a player $200 in scholarship money, enough to buy books for a couple of classes, and that would keep that player from going with a competitor.
He also said he had as many as 45 players on his roster at one point. He said he didn't know all of their names.

This doesn't make you hit the ball. Bonds was a career .300 hitter who hit a ton of doubles. He still made a lot of contact.
Steroids DO NOT make you make contact.
Adams and others strike out a shitload or make weak arse contact. Don't buy that logic at all even with lighter bats.
It was JI'm Swanki that was the difference.
Skip handled the pitchers and was a great in game called unlike Pawl.

I dont think some people remember those bats.
The bats in the 90s were freaking -5 big barrels

Beau jordan was 15% last season
Barbier with the old bats had a slg % of .414
Beau Jordan has a slg % of .410 with the bbcor

Who was the pitcher - I believe from New Jersey - in the GWS that struck out around 15 batters? Some time in the 90's.

I will say College Baseball has seemingly become more competitive in recent years across more teams in the U.S. than back then. Again, not to take away from Skip, because he changed the sport.
