All those cuts won't make up for the $52B increase in defense spending. Tell me why we need to increase defense budget by so much? This is nothing but white collar entitlement for the military industrial complex.

I guess i am thinking "soon" is a relative term here.
i say soon in like 10 years. This will likely be a "my kids" or "grandkids" thing. As a frame of reference, my first child is due in May. Maybe by the time she drives i could see it happening in small increments, but not a nationwide shift.

Ok, let me frame it this way, party cabooses with open bars.
I bet that idea would lead to a new golden age of mass transit.

Bingo. Both sides will increase govt. Spending overall. It's more of an argument of where you want those dollars to be used.
Maybe i missed the math because i am drinking and it is late but the cuts proposed on the OPs post won't cover the increase in spending.

Aside of
Increasing defense spending +1
Some of those are great cuts
quote:not sure how cuts to after school programs and care will bode with the communities for which they help/serve. Some of those programs are awesome for single moms and dads where they grind it out at work all day and can't afford nanny care.
The Education Department faces a 14 percent cut under the Trump administration budget, which would downsize or eliminate a raft of grants, including for teacher training, afterschool programs, and aid to low-income and minority college students. The cuts would be coupled with a historic investment — $1.4 billion — in charter schools, private schools and other school-choice initiatives.

I mean I thought the federal government was getting out of the education business. This just seems that they've picked up a different client.

He wants to revamp how public schools and their admins are operated. If we can all be honest, public schools for the most part are crap and voucher/choice school programs can only reach out to so many people without overburdening the system.

because obama was Carter 2.0
If you let your house rot for 8 years then have someone more responsible buy it there will be a rise in maintenance costs vs. normal for a few years.

is it a pretty big reduction in overall spending?

The Federal government should be involved with national defense.
I do believe that is the first priority of a President. Nation first, individuals second.
I'm good with that.

DHS: +2.8B (+7%)

They're transfers

It's insane that just a 9% increase is $52 billion. The defense budget is retarded.

I support the cuts, but that should be across the board. And I don't like how defense, veterans affairs, and especially homeland security are not only immune from the first like everbody else, they get increases.
Those may be more important than many other departments, but we know that they are filled also filled with bloat and inefficiencies too.
Someday I hope someone puts everbody on

Transfers to entities that are actually part of the raison d'etre of government from those that aren't? Sign me up!

come on man, either the government's too big or it's not

Plus 54 billion for the trump wars. No money for the arts.
And doofuses say there is no difference between dem and rep.

I am with you, but there has to be some serious security apparatus in place. High speed rail could be a terrorist dream target without it.
