Camp lease question

Cliff Notes edition:
Have a camp on someone else's land. Lease is $600 a year. Been there for 25 years. The ownership of the land has been passed down over the years and currently is divided between multiple family members. In January the family who claims to be the majority owners calls all the lessees saying he wants to sell it....for way more than its worth. We tell him we'd be glad to negotiate purchasing the land at a reasonable price. Then he tells us that he wants us to start paying him instead of the other family member who lives there because he hasn't seen any of the money. I tell him that's not my problem and that I have receipts of where we wired the money to the other family member and texts confirming this. Now he says he is going to put a 10 day eviction notice on our camp if we don't give our physical address (he is from the country and has no idea that he can just pull that info from the WWW). Anyway, I told him that I'd give him the info if he told me why he needed it. He was just belligerent. At this point I don't even think he has deed to the land and he isn't listed on the tax assessment database.
Anyway, long story shot I don't want to lose my camp and I don't want the yahoos to burn it down either. how should I proceed in this situation?

Sounds like it is a no-win situation for you unfortunately.

I would contact the person you pay immediately.

Start drinking heavily and kill every deer that walks.
Or contact the person you pay an alert them to the siuation.

Is there anyone in your camp that can run the title to figure out his ownership? Also, don't be scared to call the sheriff if you have a written lease.

I am going to try that. On the Geoportal it shows J M Jones Lumber ETALS. Who should I contact to do a deeper dive than that?

You have to go the the clerks office and run title to break down ownership. J M Jones Lumber just pays the taxes (probably part of a timber lease). You need title research to figure out the actual owners and what percentage is assigned to each.

You may want to conduct a title search at the local courthouse to determine actual ownership of the property.

You have any friends that are landmen or attorneys? They could knock it out fairly easily unless its complicated.

Mais Im a landman. What Parish are you in? Ill tell you if the records are available on the computer.
Also, I wouldn't sweat it too bad. In a undivided interest owner situation (Multiple Family members/persons owning shares of the property) each owner technically has equal rights to use the property. i.e. the guy harassing you could put a single wide in the property and none of the other owners could forbid it. that means the guy you are paying has an equal right to lease a camp site to you.

Thanks for all the great info. I have some good stuff to work from. It's in Concordia Parish and pretty sure their records aren't online so I think I have to go to Vidalia or Ferriday.
