Worse loss? Clemson or LSU?

Posted by bayouself74 on 9/5/23 at 6:23 am
Both teams highly ranked. Both disappointing losses, no doubt. IMHO Clemson’s loss to an unranked conference opponent is crushing, whereas we can still play for our conference championship goal and have an outside shot for the playoffs if we grow from our loss. FSU is a damn good team with playmakers on both sides of the ball and we were two touchdowns better than them in the first half. We melted down in the second half and they exposed us badly. Hopefully our players step up and our coaches figure out how to get these guys to play together.

Yes. My wife ordered mine from there and she mentioned the delay to me yesterday. She was going to contact them today but with the holiday probably won’t know anything until Wednesday at the earliest.

Baseball is a fickle game!

Posted by bayouself74 on 6/26/23 at 7:05 am
It’s a funny thing about baseball, it has a way of averaging things out. I remember earlier in the year when we were batting like .450 with runners in scoring position and our bullpen had like a 7+ ERA. I kept thinking our hitting is not that good and our pitching is not that bad. It all has a way of level setting itself. The baseball gods, law of averages, whatever you want to call it…. They are real. They giveth and they taketh away. The Tigers are not the team that played yesterday. The sample size tells us as much. We should all take a deep breath, enjoy the moment, and see what the BB Gods have in store for us today!
The fascia is wood but it’s the kind with the thick coated primer preapplied. It’s the same as was used on the column trim. I am more aggravated in the fact that I had less issues with previous home I had in Zachary that was 50+ years old and the home I moved from in UC which I had zero issues with in the 3 years I lived in it. Just figured I was moving to a new home and wouldn’t have to deal with this stuff for quite awhile. I think it’s just poor materials and poor craftsmanship. I fixed the column posts myself and the first thing I noticed was there wasn’t space between the post and the wrap and that’s basic carpentry 101. Makes me wonder what else I would find if I deconstructed everything. Thanks for everyone’s advice.

New Home issues. Advice requested.

About 3 years ago my wife and I decided to build a new home and move closer to our kids and grandchildren. We had a custom builder build it we have now been in our new home for 25 months. It has been nothing but one issue after another. Roofer left roof jacks off vent pipes. Water leaked into hot water heater and fried the control panel. Had to replace water heater. Trim around the front column rotted and I replaced all of that. Paint is cracking all over the exterior and now having to repaint entire house. Painter came to prep house and find three spot where fascia is rotting already. Latest is mold in wall near master shower. Haven’t figured out the cause of that yet. I have spoken to builder and basically they aren’t taking any responsibility and blames subs but says subs aren’t going to help because it’s been over a year. Do I have any recourse? Are there any paths that I can take to get them to take responsibility for poor quality or am I SOL? To sum it up to date I have spent $5k on water heater, $1k on column trim, & $500 on mold analysis. Quote for for painting and fascia trim work is $11k. Not sure how much it is going to cost for mold remediation and walk-in shower demolition and rebuild.
Need a recommendation for a good tile company/guy in Baton Rouge area. Having some issues with leaky shower tile at the door and curb that causing mold issues. Looking for someone who can identify the issue and correct it. I can do tile work but this is outside of my skill set.
I’m on the supply side of this and I can tell you it’s a nightmare. The sad part is that the manufacturers caused all this when they cut back production and labor based on “market” project early on during the pandemic. They have never been able to catch up since due to that action and all of the raw material, component, and labor shortages coupled with logistical problems. What I’m hearing now is that labor is a big factor throughout the full scope of production, from end to end. From where I sit, which is at a high level, manufacturers are not willing to incur costs of running factories for extended periods past normal production hours to catch up on backlog because it would impact profitability. They have all increased prices dramatically as well so in the grand scheme of things they can produce less, reduce costs, and increase profits. Factor in this to that all have force majeure and aren’t taking any financial responsibility for missed dates. This has left distribution and contractors on island to pick up all the pieces. The guys at the factories in Mexico I talk to say they are fully staffed & have plenty of material on hand to build panels but they can only produce so much based on the amount of time they can run the plant. The other “excuses” are mainly coming from American middle and upper management.
Went to Werner and LA Nursery in P’Ville and neither had it.

Preemergent and new lawn

Posted by bayouself74 on 10/3/21 at 10:10 am
I have a newer centipede lawn with sod being laid down last February. That last hard freeze really put the hurt on it but has hung on well enough. I have only fertilized it with milorganite up to this point. I was going to put down Prodiamine in a week or two but then I read that it might harm root systems in newly sodded lawns and not allow good grass seed to germinate. Should I be concerned about this and wait until next season to apply preemergent?
Like everyone has said before supply chain is already screwed because of Covid. This is going to be an ugly situation.

The western section is pretty tough with difficult grades and loose rock. I have found that counter clockwise is a little bit more difficult than clockwise. Plenty of good campsites to be had and water is plentiful.

I thought they were the party of Science???
Does anyone think Mexican Whistling Ducks overtaking wood duck boxes is having an impact? I see a bunch of them everywhere and they seem to enjoy those boxes up at three rivers.

re: Miss. River Water Level Questions

Posted by bayouself74 on 5/11/20 at 10:11 am to
The corps has flow rate levels that trigger openings of the lock system in stages. Those other issues you mentioned earlier don’t factor into it on the surface (but are discussed at a higher leVel than you or I). With all that being said I was in Concordia this past week and I can tell you the length of time that the river has stayed well above flood stage for the past 4-5 years is really taking a toll on the levee system. There are levee washouts in numerous places including one near the Morganza spillway. Thankfully the levee is really wide in that location. I know they are really concerned about uplift on the land side of the levees as well. The Corps is going to have its work cut out for it when the water goes down to get all the repairs in before next years high water.
Service lumber is right by my office. I’ll try them first.
Yes I have a planer and router. May need to get a biscuit joiner. I am a novice too. Never tried anything fancy and only with reclaimed wood or cypress I had laying around. Looking to challenge myself a bit. Thanks for all your helpful responses.

Looking for a good place to buy hardwood in or around Baton Rouge for a couple furniture projects I’d like to tackle. Anyone have any suggestions?
