LSU has an insurance plan for full time students. I am sure other schools do also. I think it is a dumb provision.

If you are poor wouldn't you qualify for government assistance.

Because college students and grad students are already heavily in debt due to student loans.
College is already too expensive and time intensive for them to work a job with benefits (heck they go to college to get one of those jobs)
They can't afford to purchase their own health insurance. Before Obamacare, most just went without, and if they got sick, they were either SOOL or their parents were on the hook.

So now you're 24 or 25 when you make your first full time salary.

So would 24 be a more reasonable age? Does it even matter in the cost of things?

Another point I didn't make in OP was that we are seeing adult diseases in children now... at younger & younger ages so there is that to consider.

This is inherently stupid, and shows your lack of undertstanding for how insurance works. Under 26 is a group that insurance companies want. They claim less and help lower premiums for older people.

Explain to me why I have to pay to keep grown men on their mommy's insurance, which is paid for by the subsidies from obamacare, ie, my taxes.

LSU offers insurance for full time students. I am sure they are not the only ones.

Is this a problem?

This is what it was like before obamacare.

Their insurance plan was crazy expensive when I looked at it, but this was before Obamacare.

Advanced degrees? Law school, Medical school, etc. I will gladly have my son on my plan, as long as he's enrolled in a meaningful post grad degree, because he's my son.

I personally think too many people go to college. Also there are worthless degrees... good degrees but worthless in the current job market. The first thing a college kid should do is assess the job market in the area they plan to live after graduation to see if it will support them prior to picking a major.

Also, there's nothing wrong with learning trades, or starting ones' own business, without a 4 year degree.

I said good jobs. Not everyone is satisfied with 45k a year working construction.

And you probably still can't walk into those jobs straight from college. You'd at least need an advanced degree.

People making stupid investments.

1. Major in something you know you can market yourself with.
3. Don't rack up additional debt in college on stupi shite.
2. Don't be above working a certain job if you need one.
3. Don't have a kid until you are financially ready. Pregnancies are never accidents.
4. When you get a job live poor for a few years and quickly pay off loans.
5. Prosper.

All 18-22 year olds should be as knowledgeable as you are in your 50s.

It is if you have an individual mandate.

I think it should be an option that policy holders can pay extra for, same with things like prenatal care.

I also don't believe in an individual mandate, or entitlement programs, or taxes on income, or most federal regulatory schemes, but I'm just another crazy free market libertarian.

This is the problem right here. You don't get to bitch if you need a job and think you are above some type of work.

Junior Assistant District Attorneys, right out of college often don't make 45k a year starting out.

You do realize that the cost of higher ed has increased at more than 1000% the rate of inflation, right? Do you also realize that most jobs that don't exclusively hire illegal immigrants, offer insurance, and are not in the trades require a college degree now? More people should be welders and carpenters, but financial and economic situations for young people today is nothing like what it was just 15 years ago, and almost unrecognizable from 30 or more years ago.

I meant 45k tops in your career. Not out of college.
