What other symbolic objects do you use to "identify the trash"?
Serious question...just curious.

Specifically in the case of the South Carolina state house, the flag was raised in the early 1960's

Do you know when Alabama started flying it atop its capitol building? The day Robert Kennedy came to Montgomery to meet with Governor George Wallace on civil rights.

It was flown atop the capitol every year on Confederate's Memorial Day, but it found a permanent home that day, and wasn't removed until 1993.

Sorry. 100% of people I've observed flying that flag were trashy AF and would have looked trashy without it.

Really this thread in your view can only be solved in one way, which is to ban the confederate flag, which is highly unconstitutional btw. It goes against the first amendment. Which would open the door for so many others to be taken away as well. So if you look at it from a logical and constitutional way, then the answer is not only a no, but frick no. Let the damn flag stand.

Is there a problem with the battle flag?? If so, what is the problem??

Probably the same problem people have with Germans rocking the symbology of the Waffen SS, only its America so you can wave the flag of an Army which killed more Americans than the Nazis if you want.

Its just a flag, and it's a part of American history. That is ALL it is, nothing more nothing less. It only becomes something more when you ascribe more to it than what it is.

Wrong. Whether you agree or not, the fact remains its been coopted as a symbol of hate.

I never said ban it. I said give it up. Stop fighting for it. It doesn't matter.

What does that mean? Judgement by appearances I have personally found to be very wrong a lot of the times.

On this point: When I went to Germany, every little village had a memorial to those who died fighting between 1939-1945. You realize how big of toll the war took on the people there. They fought for what they believed in, or they simply fought for there country, or because it was what was expected.

What you don't see are symbols of the Third Reich. There is way to honor the fallen without the symbols that have come to signify hate.

Some, but most people are not that complex and are who they appear to be.

I live in MS and rarely see it anywhere anyways. Is it that prevalent in other areas of the south?

The absolute definition of ignorance. The flag most of them fly is the one segregationists brought out of retirement in the 40's, 50's and 60's as a middle finger to those working for civil rights. That's the heritage you're clinging to when you say it's a flag about heritage.

Those same segregationists marched with the US flag also. Should we ban it?

Wrong. Only in the mind of those easily manipulated. Just my opinion.

Don't you know? That's what MLK wanted us to learn...prejudge people by how they look...oh, wait.
