I went to my college library - once. Wonderful how mankind puts so much effort into making these places so that you want to come back. Happy Saturday. Enjoy. LINK

Funny how my iPhone contains more information than any library in the world. Boggles my mind that they will be tearing down Middleton this year.

What about library exteriors. Eastern Europe has some really odd ones.
Here are some one's I've been to that stood out:
National Library - Pristina, Kosovo
>
Latvian National Library - Riga, Latvia
National Library of Estonia - Tallinn, Estonia
Warsaw Universtiy Library

Years ago I was fortunate enough to enjoy a behind the scenes tour and private dinner of the Library of Congress. I am happy to see it on the list as I enjoyed it very much.

We have much more affordable, space efficient ways of storing and cataloging information these days. Still cool to see those giant old libraries though.

A lot of public libraries are finding ways to reinvent themselves in the technology age. Hosting book clubs, seminars, classes, etc. is the way to go. A library shouldn't just be a place to store physical information. It should be a community resource.

I think there's intrinsic value for human beings to "memorialize" the concept of knowledge, learning and history in these beautiful buildings. Shrines to ourselves, so to speak.
