Here's a good explanation of the media being blocked from the gaggle

Spicy Spicer expanded the pool for the meeting and they didn't get picked. They're reactionary assholes.
"The pool usually includes a representative from one television network and one print outlet. In this case, four of the five major television networks -- NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox News -- were invited and attended the meeting, while only CNN was blocked. And while The New York Times was kept out, conservative media organizations Breitbart News, The Washington Times and One America News Network were also allowed in. Asked whether CNN and The New York Times were blocked because the administration was unhappy with their reporting, Spicer responded: "We had it as pool, and then we expanded it, and we added some folks to come cover it. It was my decision to expand the pool."

The white house press 'corps' acts as a "pool". For some events, it doesn't make sense to bring in 150 reporters. So a selection or "pool" of reporters are picked and taken to the event. Their reports, pictures, video...etc is open to the whole press corp to use.
This event was a desginated "pool" even, so there only should have been a handful of reporters. Sean Spicer added a few extras because there was room, and didn't pick CNN or NYT.
So of course, CNN and NYT took it personally.
Look, we know he did it on purpose, but it's not like they were kicked out of the briefing room and barred from the white house. They just weren't invited to an event they already weren't invited too.

Who should be excluded from a press
"gaggle" and who should be able to make that call?

Where is this from? Link?

The gaggle is NOT something you are excluded from. It is something you are invited to. NO outlet has a standing invitation. It is an ad hoc gathering.
Where was the complaining when Obama froze out Fox?

You guys are ridiculous. Do you actually support theidea of a government attempting to stifle the press. That's not really an American point of view.but you know that. It'S shameful and dangerous.

How are they stifled exactly? Just because they don't get to ask their questions? The Trump admin has distributed 2,000 press passes. They all can't be allowed in a press conference even though this wasn't a pc that everyone is so riled up about. It was the media kicking like a mule when Trump wanted to change the venue to a larger building but nooooo, the elite media had a shite conniption fit so therefore the press conference stayed in their little squeeze chute of a room.
Karma.

No one is stifling the media or attempting to do so. Stop being a drama queen

Stifle the press=not calling the questions of a few select private media companies that make up 5% of the press pool. Got ya.

Excluding CNN (when the WH otherwise never does) the day after they posted a story damaging to Trump is very disturbing.
Obama didn't run from the press. I seem to remember Fox News being assigned Helen Thomas' chair in the FIRST ROW of the press corp briefing room after she retired.
Trump and Spicer look weak and afraid of the media when they do crap like this.

They should be blocked from the entire White House.

So you're saying that five years into the Obama admin FOX had not yet been assigned a front row seat? You're argument seems to fall apart if true.

Here is a better explanation.
Anybody having anything to do with that abortion of a Priebus story gets a day in the penalty box.
Say whatever to the masses but make sure the assholes themselves know what it is for.
I believe there were enough anti-Trump media there to still gin up the daily left wing spin about it.

Has Fox News ever ran a story saying Obama paid hookers to piss on him while he got his daily dose of anime pron?
