Drunken driver gets unusual jail sentence as a reminder of woman he killed
LINK
Seems like a damn lenient sentence considering the end result. Someone very close to me did the same and was sentenced to 7.5 years and was out in 2
What do you think? 120 days + a week on the anniversary of her death for 9 years. That's a total of 183 days for taking a life. Messed up IMO.

A Texas man who cut short the life of an “extraordinary” woman in a drunken driving crash will be reminded of his crime by sitting in a jail cell on the anniversary of her death for the next nine years.
Travis Elwell, 23, of Mesquite, was sentenced last week to serve 120 days in jail for the 2015 death of Emily Javadi, 34, who was killed while loading items into her car after a workout at Dallas’ Cole Park. Elwell, who had a blood alcohol content of 0.175 at the time, more than twice the legal limit, was speeding when his BMW crashed into Javadi’s Lexus, sending her into a metal pole. She died about an hour later, the Dallas Morning News reports.

As part of a plea deal arranged by Javadi’s parents and prosecutors, Elwell will also serve one week in jail on the anniversary of Javadi’s death on Feb. 10, 2015, for the next nine years, WFAA reports.
“That was the only thing that was important to us,” Javadi’s father, Michael, told the station Thursday. “That there needs to be some sort of accountability for the irresponsible actions that he took.”
The Javadis said they were never interested in seeing Elwell locked up for life, but rather acting on advice given to them by their attorneys that drunken drivers convicted of intoxication manslaughter often receive probation instead of years behind bars.

That's fricking stupid. If he would have had a dime bag on him, he would have gotten 180 days without killing anyone.

Travis deserves a severe arse whipping every year on February 10.

Messed up
If they thew in castration on top of his 183 days that would be a little better.

He should get life in prison.

I like it. I think we get too focused on number of days.

That's fricked up... should get atleast 10 and once a year, for the anniversary, he should spend a week in the hole

either way his life is ruined, good luck getting a job with that on your record. I agree more jail time is needed to fend off others in the future, nobody is really scared of drunk driving and killing someone. You start putting down a couple people for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and watch what happens to the number of DUI's. Our justice system is so lax in the states, look at thieves, the kid who stole my road bike last year had 12 arrests before he was 22 years old and the cop apologized but said it was the DA's that let these guys go if it were up to the cops they'd lock them all up.

That fricker should be spending his whole life in prison!
They need to let the petty drug users out and throw people like this in jail

How about the number of days the 34 year old he killed should have had left to live?

when the sentence is that light you have to just assume the kid was from a rich family. Remember that one kid that got let off for affluenza lol money buys anything these days.

Average sentences in Texas are about 13 years. i have learned through defensive driving. just thought i would share.

Looks like both sides had money. Those people don't do real time. Donte Stallworth only got 30 days for killing some guy while drunk driving. He had to pay the family $1 million though.

Bro, not in Houston. My bro had an ounce and got community service with a second rate attorney. First time offender FWIW.
He got popped right across the street from our office too so we had a front row seat

Depends on what her family pushed for I guess. He took a human life and that deserves a proper punishment. Her family might have figured there was no need for his family to lose him too. I've seen lenient sentences for a similar case before.

Ok I'll play. What do you like about it exactly? It seems fair or what?

I think houston just legalized up to 4 oz of weed recently.

Didn't that person dart out in front of his car? I'm all for getting tougher but I kind of remember alcohol no actually playing a factor in that one.

It's on the road to legalization no doubt. 4oz should be distribution IMO. The deferred adjudication program my bro was on you could have up to an ounce per the new DA ANDDDD off your record. Anything over was a misdemeanor/felony
