Very fitting.

But with the exception of short period with Lon Kruger, Florida was nothing in basketball until Billy Donovan was hired.
And look what they have already again in Mike White. A guy who coached in our backyard for a few years, did well enough at LT (but didnt even make tournament), goes to UF and they are fighting for a 2 seed 2 years in.
Meanwhile we just want to win a game right now, any game. Just pathetic. Basketball makes me sick with LSU. So many "what could have" beens. All the talent that passes through the state, and yes through this program, and we have won 1 game in the NCAAT in the last DECADE

Last 30 years of LSU basketball:
1 Final Four and 1 Sweet 16.
Only 6 NCAA tournament berths in the last 24 years.
1 NCAA tournament win in the last 11 years.
"Perennial Power" is not in the DNA of this program at the moment. No matter who is coaching next year, it will be an uphill climb to get relevant again.
We have a winner.
Also, while Foley struck gold with Donovan and it's looking good for White, he is only 1.5 out of 4 in football choices. (The jury is out on McIlwain IMO).
Neither Donovan nor White were sure things. That's the nature of coaching hires. What Donovan did is absolutely phenomenal. He took a program with virtually no pedigree in hoops and made it into a power.

Facilities are subpar. PMAC is a dump.

Damn! North Dakota representing!

quote:That's likely true, but will still be a struggle at the outset to turn the program around while you bring in those couple of good recruiting classes and develop that talent a little. I suspect that's why he said "next year" will be an uphill climb.
I see no reason we can't be a tournament team with 1 or 2 good recruiting classes and a good coaching hire.

True, but it could be and should be. From 1978-1992, LSU went to the dance just about every year and had 2 Final Four appearances and at least 8 Round-of-32 appearances and 3 or 4 Sweet 16s.
But since then, there's just been 2000 (Sweet 16), and 2006 (Final Four).
We need to get back to the 80's mentality somehow, some way.

"Baton Rouge, Louisiana is the 93rd largest city in the United States, but No. 7 in terms of NBA presence ahead of Houston or Phoenix. Brandon Bass, Marcus Thornton, Glen Davis, Robert Sacre, Langston Galloway and Garrett Temple were all born there".
The article is 2 years old. Both Jarrell Martin and Damian Jones have been on NBA rosters this season.
8 players from Baton Rouge in the NBA would place Baton Rouge 4th behind Los Angeles, New York and Chicago
Yes LSU should be a perennial basketball power, and it is so sad to see the program being shite away.

We went to the tourney a lot but we didn't really have a great team after '81. We were consistently good but not close to a perennial power.

Uhhhh, JJ was the guy who was supposed to do that. He played for and coached for Dale Brown, the worst one of the best coaches in SEC history.
Dude(Brown) was a basketball idiot, but motivated like no other. JJ was the last guy LSU needed to hire. He has no x and o skills and can't motivate worth a shite. Thus the team was destined to suck arse.

Thank you someone who gets it. Most of the posters here who disagrees with you, will tell you LSU has the best basketball players in the country. Yet none of them would be starting at the likes of Duke,UNC, Villanova etc...
Most here really dont follow basketball (besides looking up the scores) they are only here to troll the fire JJ train.
And some will quickly say well WE HAD THE #1 NBA PICK....but will ignore the problems that existed within the team because of him. One went so far to suggest that SIMMONS WAS BETTER THAN HEILD IN COLLEGE --> LINK

I see no reason why we should be a perennial power we have one of the smaller populations of the southern states a bunch of crazy know nothing fans wanting to run LSU sports programs instead of the coaches, me I expect LSU,s management to make those decisions not board crazies !

You can't do much with the current Tiger lineup. How did we ever get to be so lacking in talent?

Ok clearly you didnt read the link that was posted.
The State of Louisiana produces more players on NBA rosters per capita than any of the other 49 states,
and Baton Rouge has more players in the NBA outside of LA, NY, and Chicago.
There is a shite load of ridiculous talent that comes through this state, small population or not. It justis a matter of harnessing some of that talent to LSU. And there is no excuse to not make it happen, except for shitty arse coaching/administration/meddlers.
As was mentioned earlier, LSU made it to the final four with basically a lineup of Baton Rouge players.
Iam sick of listening to people who think LSU isnt worhty or capbable of being a powerhouse.

North Dakota State University should be a Final Four contender every year too.
Look at the map.

quote:Too many born, bred and raised in Louisiana people in the LSU fan base with expectations and acceptance of mediocrity; they have low standards of excellence for themselves, the State, the City of BR, the University and the Athletic programs of LSU......................
We should demand a hell of a lot better than what we've seen of late.

Its no different in football and the nfl.

At this point, i'd settle for at least being in the (legit) bubble talk or better each year. 3 out of 4 tourneys or so with the 4th being NIT. For all the nega-Dale talk, he did have us in the post season like 17 or 18 straight years.
When I went to school, LSU basketball was legit and talked about on a national scale. And there were over 10,000 fans for all games and sell outs for the big ones. We can get there again.
