LHSAA State Championships Thread

This year we have a weird schedule due to Endymion not allowing games to be played Saturday. Today, the Division-IV and Division-III boys and girls state championships will be played. All of them will be streamed online on the NFHS network. Get the playoff subscription for $24.99, which expires automatically after 60 days, and is a better value. Last year I made the mistake of committing to the $9 a month for a whole year, and I didn't use it hardly anytime after soccer season.

Girls D4- #11 Country Day Cajuns vs. #4 Isidore Newman Greenies
Don't know much about the girls teams, but should be a close one.
Boys D4- #2 Episcopal of Acadiana Falcons vs. #1 Isidore Newman Greenies
Newman playing for their 8th title, and the first since 2009 after coming up just short in the title game last year, losing to Northlake Christian in OT. Newman beat ESA 2-1 earlier in the year, and should be slight favorites here. Two teams that will pass it around the park, and should be beautiful to watch.
Girls D3- #2 Loyola Prep Flyers vs. #1 Vandebilt Catholic Terriers
Boys D3- #8 Episcopal of BR Knights vs. #3 St. Louis Catholic Saints
Episcopal beat St. Louis 2-0 early in the season, but history has shown St. Louis takes their game to another level in the postseason. They are 12-1 in the title game under Jason Oertling since 1997, and have won titles 6 of the last 7 seasons. Episcopal were D-III champions in 2013. Expect a fast-paced and physical game. This St. Louis team isn't as good as last year's that won 31 games, but they should get the job done when it counts tonight.

WTF? Yall play during the winter?

Yep. A few other states do, as well.
Makes for a miserable experience soemtimes. My freshman year we played in 9 degree weather. A few days later it was almost 90 degrees. Go figure.

i mean, its really not that bad at all. i played in about a handful of freezing temp games during 4 years of high school soccer.

Games in the 40s aren't much better.

I don't see any reason why you can't delay the season 2 months and start in February.

mostly 50-70, its not cold once you start playing anyway. its worse for the parents having to go watch lol. we had a lot of overlap between the baseball and soccer team so february wouldve lost quite a few of our best players

D4 girls underway. Country Day (in royal blue) scoreless with Newman (in white) 20 minutes into the first half.
Feel bad for those girls. What should be a very special moment for them is tarnished a bit by playing in an empty stadium. I'm sure most of their parents took off of work, but it's not the same atmosphere without students there to support you.

I was not a fan of the timing of high school soccer. There were many 40 degree games with rain. Some of the coldest moments of my life were during those games.

If y'all are having any trouble finding the game on the NFHS website, just type the name of the school into the search bar and it will come up.

D4 boys start at 3. D3 girls at 5:30 and the D3 boys at 8.
Nightcap should be a good one. All of the above times will be delayed if any previous games go into extra time to give adequate warm-up time.

Newman just scored. Not sure exactly what happened. Seemed like from a free kick set play. Looks like Country Day tried to play the offside trap and failed badly.

I am heading to Gormley for the Newman/Episcopal game shortly. GO GREENIES!!

1-0 Newman at halftime.
Stadium not as empty as I thought.
About to head to class, but I'll keep an eye on the game.
